Hi all,
I had a chronic attack in April , have A 2cm gallstone and told I have to have surgery.
How long is it wise to delay surgery if you don't have repeat attacks?
I have some indigestion issues which come and go and afew sharp pains lasting only minutes and some central aches and under ribs.
Totally independent thing. I have lots of attacks several acute over 18 months before I had to get mine taken out privately best thing I ever did. If the stone moves to the duct that can cause severe problems but if your happy carrying on then it's totally up to you. I had weeks where I couldn't move
But you will have attacks thats the whole point!
Why don't you research Ursodioxycholic acid treatment ----it dissolves gall stones if they are cholesterol based in their composition... A lot of info is there on the internet and especially so in the USA. I did not have a problem at all taking that treatment and have had NO symptoms whatsoever since -now two years ago. It took six months to dissolve three of my stones and reduced the biggest from 17mm down to 10mm and a smaller stone
to 4 mm..... I may have passed one or both of the ones that remained but because I am symptom free (asymptomatic) I am not taking anything since two years ago. I did not want the knife for valid reasons and proved a learner registrar wrong but her superior wrote me a letter stating that yes Urso will dissolve gallstones so I'll give you a script..... My GP's flatly refused to give Urso a go but they had to repeat my script once the surgeon had given me one...... Shame on those who are not educated enough to promote what is surely better that an operation in any event..... so long as the tablets work and are not causing adverse symptoms while they do their work!
