Well here I am, out the other side at one week post op. Like you all I am finding difficulties with sleeping and really uncomfortable laying on my back to sleep. I am lucky to have a walk in shower so no problems there.
I walked 100 yards today which for someone who never ever excises was an achievement for me. I can get out of bed ok, but still finding I need help getting in.
Hi, doing very well and sound positive. Take your time, don't rush, ease into the exercises and don't worry about and leg swelling / stiffness. And don't feel you may not be improving if you think others are ahead of you at same stage as we all heal at different rates. Best wishes to you and enjoy the sunny weather.
The important thing is to keep as active as you can. The more you exercise those muscles, the more of an improvement you will see. Great to see you walking; keep that up. As everyone here says, your body will tell you when to take a break. As to sleeping on your back, join the party! We have all been there and know what it is like. In short, keep moving but don't overdo it.
I think you are doing okay. Little and often is the way to go. If you are uncomfortable in bed, try a pillow under your knees or roll up a bath towel, either will do, so find the most comfortable for you. It just helps to relax your knees a bit and your legs aren't poker straight. Hope you continue with your progress. Best wishes.
Thats the key Nadine, being motivated and staying positive and most of all don't compare your recovery progress to everyone else's We all recover at our own pace, some faster than others. I'm in my 6th week of recovery and still have a problem sleeping through the night but it is getting better. I manage to make it from around 9pm to about 2-3am then I'm up. Seems to be something we all have in common, not to many back sleepers here. Keeping active is so important even if you don't feel like doing your daily exercises or walks do them, it will pay off in the end.
Hi Nadine I too am 1 week post op. I can just about get in and out of bed ok. I too dont like sleeping on my back, I have a nice plump pillow between my knees which i alternate resting my op leg on. I havnt walked very far with the crutches as i find my legs tire easily after 10 yards. Which is not like me as I am a fit 32 yr old man (apart from hip) lol. so it sounds to me that you are doing brilliant. I have read it gets better :-) so we will have to be patient.
