1 Year sign-off

Morning everyone, I had a call from the hospital inviting me for my 1 year sign-off appointment with my surgeon. We will be away on holiday when my THR anniversary comes around so I went to see him yesterday (a few weeks early).

He's really, really pleased with how I have recovered & happy with my x-rays. As I'd been getting a few twinges in my other hip, he x-rayed that as well & compared it to last year. The good news is it hasn't really changed much - a small amount of cartilage has gone but nothing too drastic so he said he's hoping he doesn't see me again for a good few years!

I'm so pleased & can't thank my wonderful surgeon enough & all of the nursing staff etc. at the hospital & of course all of you horrible lot! My hip forum friends, who will never know how much you all helped when I was first diagnosed (blimey, that feels like years ago)! You all offered help & advice at all times of the day & night, before, during & after my op & for that I can't truly thank you enough. Whether you are just starting out on your journey, midway or nearing the end, be positive & stay strong.

Love to you all xxx

Good to read your positive message.

Well done you!!

Hi lovely lady, hope you are well?

My surgery was carried out at a private hospital so that's why I probably got the call! X

Hi Fernlady,

Congratulations!!  I'm not far behind you, as I had my surgery last July.  Wishing you all the best!

Good to hear your good news there.  I agree, this is a wonderful forum for help and advice 24x7x365.

I just had another check-up too, and they're happy the ball and socket are performing OK, and don't want to see me again for one whole year.

As you say, be positive, stay strong, and remember; it will take as long as it takes.

Graham

Hi Graham, good to hear your good news as well although, I think it's fair to say, you've suffered more than most! Your site was invaluable to me & I tell everyone about it so thank you again x

Hi Fernlady, great news!

I too was wondering about the rather good service from the hospital! I did have a 9 month appointment for x-ray and discharge, but as usual didn't see my lovely surgeon... except for him rushing past in the distance... I think in the busy NHS clinics, you only see your surgeon for initial diagnosis, and then if you're having problems.

Glad it's all gone well for you, Judith

dear graham,

what wonderful news ... you must be so relieved, sweertheart ... phew, right ?

are you pursuing any compensation for this medical mishap ?

have a great weekend

Hi Rocketman

So pleased you are doing well.Good news indeed!

You have carried on,working as well as offering support and help to all of us,despite your own difficulties.

We all have different reasons for needing THR and various levels of fitness/age and other issues.

As you rightly say ,it takes as long as it takes, but we get there in the end.

All the very best

Fantastic news. ! We'll done and keep healthy !

Renee,

So many thanks to you for your help and support, you are a star of this wonderful forum.  As you say - phew !

Compensation - yes, I am persuing this, but it takes along time.

Best wishes

Graham

Oh very good news.    I think, looking back, that carrying on with 'normal' work helped my recovery.  Daily 'forced march' and cycling as part of the commute into London helped - but now so glad to be retired!

Best wishes

Graham
