During the past 10 days after my hemorrhoidectomy, I suffered from extreme pain due to constipation, and terrible irregularity of BM ( frequent bowel movements sometimes even 6 times a day.) I decided to take a stool softener (docusate sodium) 24 hours ago. After taking the stool softener, my feeling for BM totally disappeared! It is a good feeling that I don't need bm anymore, but I'm extremely worried what's going on with my disappeared BM?! Should I wait? and especially should I continue to take the softener if there is no bm?
Hi, keep taking the softener, the BM will return and you want it as soft as possible. I had similar and the urge to go is sudden and passing can be painful for the amount that sometimes comes out. It might feel like you are passing a telegraph pole but in reality it is a very small amount(most of the time). The pain will ease but it helps to take pain killers.
Thanks Paul for your reply. The pain is horrible and I'm scared of eating food. Your example "telegraph pole" was funy 😀 but its sensation is very true. I'll keep taking the softener.. Thanks
Hi..Definately have the stool softners no matter what...I was told to have 5 sachets a day and then eased up slowly and reduced to 3..The stool softner will do all of the work so that when you do need to go, it will come naturally so you wont be constipated...Eat lightly and high fibre food..and drink lots of water and orange juice which will also help with soft bowel movements
It worked; thanks
Ah thats great!
