10 days post op

After a roller coaster ride the first week out, things are good again. My surgeon did such a good job ,my incision doesn't even have 1 spot of blood. My bruising is nearly gone and I am moving along really well with exercises. Sometimes I forget I just had major surgery.

i still struggle with a good night sleep. My leg cramps up on me, no matter what position I lay in. But, in time all will be well.

hope you all are doing well.

Well done carla. Remember no amount of exercise will make you recover quicker. Time heals the muscles. Glad your surgeon did such a good job!!. Keep up the good work

Good morning from Holland, Carla -

So good to hear you are doing well - Where do you live?

I remember that you are on standard pacific time, which to me means Los Angeles - Only because I lived there for almost 35 years (left one year ago-long story) -

As for the leg cramps, someone on this forum suggested to drink tonic and it helps me - at least I think it does, because I have less to no cramps -

you are still so early in your recovery ... all the muscles and tendons are so fragile and working hard to get you up and going ...

Great that your scar is closed nicey - do you have staples or something that dissolves ---

wishing you a good night for later ... don;t worry too much about it right now - it is a rollecoaster ride, physically and emotionally ...

blessing and big warm hug

Try quinine tablets for your cramps as I found it stopped me cramping !'great to hear your progress 🌞

Great to hear!

Glad you are feeling well.  Walking is the best exercise. Take care!

Carla,

So happy to hear about your speedy recovery. May I ask what approach your surgeon used and if you had THR due to OA or an injury/ trama?

What a positive post, so good to read that you

are doing well. My cramp tip is to keeping socks

on day and night.

Osteoarthritis. Inherited from My mother. My surgeon did the lateral approach.

I'm From north Idaho.

Hi Carla, good to hear things are going well. Just a heads up that most people after a major surgery experience short periods of mild depressing. It doesn't last but a day or two so if you start feeling a bid down one day for no reason keep that in mind.

Hoe long was your surgery, you mentioned bruising, did you have significant bruising? Finally any swelling? I am taking a survey (seriously).

How long was your surgery

Did you have any sswelling

Did you have any bruising.

Many thanks

I have begun experiencing mild depression, most of it is because my aunt who was taking care of me had to go home and now I'm left with my husband who isn't the best caregiver in the world. But at least it's making me tend to myself. Which is a good thing.

survey answers:

surgery was about an hour, lateral procedure

minimal swelling

minimal bruising, and 10 days later you can barely see any bruising

i am 53 years and in good health, I only lost enough blood to fill a coke can during surgery And have had no bleeding post surgery. When the nurse changed the dressing she said she never ever saw a incision that hasn't had even a little blood. But I have none. My scar looks perfect. He did an awesome job!!

Hope your survey goes well

Sorry your aunt is going home. Ive had my hubby for 3 weeks. Good caregiver but hopeless housekeeper. He goes back to work tomorrow so ill be alone. . Im 56. .....23 days post op. One crutch inside coping ok but will miss the company

days can seem awful long when your alone. I crochet, that helps pass the time.

It can do carla. Where are you?? Im lucky i have alot of interests pl

Keep at it , tonic water for leg cramps sometimes works

A magnesium supplement can help with cramping.  I buy magnesium glycinate capsules on Amazon.  Glad you're doing better.  Hang in there and don't overdo the exercises like I did!

I live in Idaho, USA.

i may have overdone it today. Took 2 walks and even walked with cane. Really tired  and sore tonight. It just felt so good.

Hi Carla,

You probably did, darling ... it is so easy to overdo it at this stage and it feels good - walking without that pain and feeling human again...

but your body will let you know that it was a tad too much - nothing wrong with taking it easy today -

You are doing really good - give yourself a pat on the back and for today, be gentle with your self -

good night

warm big hug

renee

Hi Carla,

Its great to hear you are doing so well. It's so easy to overdo it though when you are feeling that good. Our bodies have a way of telling us to apply the brakes a little when we have gone steaming ahead. Listen to it, it will serve you well 😊

Rest today if you can, it will do you no harm and you can start again when you feel ready. It's a long road to recovery in hippie land, best taken in small steps rather than short sprints.

Good luck and keep up the good work. You are doing amazingly well 😊
