Hi all. Haven't posted for a while but would like advice. I'm 10 weeks post anterior RTHR. Had been chugging right along; discharged from for formal PT after five weeks, no pain meds needed, back to doing normal life stuff, yada, yada. Started sleeping in bed instead of a recliner (I'm a right side sleeper). Have found myself with pain/discomfort taking my first few steps for the last couple weeks. Once I get started pain is gone. Back to sleeping in a recliner. Icing more often than I had been. Any ideas why? I see my surgeon in 10 days for 90 day check up & will ask him also. Thanks to all
My doctor wouldn't let me go to PT until eight weeks later. He felt people do too much during the first couple weeks. While I'm not sure I agree with him, I have been going to PT for over a year and hopefully I'll keep going, at least a couple times a month, because they have gotten me through different types of pains in different areas of my leg. I've moved on from a lot of strengthening exercises to stretching. I can't under emphasize the importance of PT. I'm 53 and did experience exactly what you described it takes time
hi ruth,
what you describe sounds like stiffness to me - something I experience too - is it less now that you went back sleeping in your recliner again?
what is diffferent? are you sleeping on your side when you are in bed? sleeping in bed, on my side, puts me in a fetal postion .. knees on the side etc. I think this might cause the stiffness in the morning ...
you probably sleep in a different position when in recliner ....
some aches and swelling in the hip can also persist for a longer time because bone, a living tissue, continues to re-model and adapt around the metal implants.
sounds like you are doing very well ... you go girl ... let us know how you are getting on, okay
big warm hug

hi rcoa,
there certainly are different opinions abut having PT post-op THR and you can consider yourself luckky with having a good one !!! not all of PT's are knowledgable about new hips ... mine had me do things that were too streneous so I had to stop ...
how are you doing otherwise?
big warm hug
Hi Ruth if in doubt go back & ask for a check up in the phsyio dept .But remember that you have had a major operation. It can take many months.regards Amanda
