10 weeks THR another parkrun

This is always a divisive one running at all but I am pleased with progress so far after THR . Did another parkrun this morning. So the first one after surgery at 4 weeks it took me 48 mins hobbling and jogging ,walking and today it took me 24 minutes for the 5K . I am about a min or so off my best but dont feel like pushing too hard .

****Keith I’m very happy for you that you are recovering well. Obviously it is totally your decision how you treat your body, however I would be far, far more impressed if you were able to come back here in five, ten or indeed twenty years time and tell us that you were still able to walk decent distances without any issues let alone running!

I got over twenty years of very demanding building work out of my THR. When I finally wore through the poly cup the stem was still firmly fixed and so it was an easy revision. Had I ignored my surgeon’s guidance of avoiding running then I very much doubt that I would have such a problem free hip experience!

Cheers, Richard

Keith I tried to add this to my reply but it proved impossible. I’ve just returned from a hiking trip high in the Swiss Alps with a fit friend twenty-three years younger than me and we were doing demanding steep walks most days.

I did not experience any hip problems and I’m approaching eighty and for the record I had a complete revision of my total ankle replacement eighteen months ago so I think that I can speak with some practical long term experience of joint replacements!

Best wishes, Richard

Im trying to say this in the nicest way but dont bother responding to any of my posts it is much too negative for me .

Hi Keith, It’s amazing that you’re only a minute off your best time, well done! You must have worked so hard to get your fitness back. Hip replacements are brilliant when all goes to plan. (I love mine!)

Keith thanks but many here may get the idea that running is all OK. If you get away with it long term thats great but others may not be so fortunate and you will only know by bitter experience!

A revision may not be successful. Just worth bearing in mind!
Cheers, Richard

Many thanks for the response . yes I have been trying g to get back to full fitness and from about week 6 back to doing 3 runs per week gradually picking up the pace. I am a constant pace runner so no sprinting etc and aware of the risk . did a 10k a few weeks back but I’m putting those on the back burner for couple of weeks
