Hi everyone. We'll I am away on holiday in the sun. I was walking unaided with limp and with correct gait at 8 weeks.
Following advice from our wonderful Renee I booked special assistance at airport and brought a crutch with me. So glad I did. I've discovered that after walking for 10 minutes I really feel it in my hip. Still not limping but feel I would if I continued walking unaided so using my crutch when venturing further a field. Having assistance at the airports was gratefully received as i don't think I would have managed standing in queues and the long walk to the gate. Swimming is.......wonderful. Really starting to build up my muscles in the water. Even did aqua arobics class today and only missed out the ones where I would of put my leg in precarious positions. Hmmmmm breaststroke! !!! I just find it hard not to do it, although I am only doing vety gentle frog legs
One thing I would like to add. The knee on my operated leg is turning in quite badly and looks twisted. Doesn't hurt just looks odd. I seem to remember I was a little knock kneed in the past but not this bad. Has anybody else had this happen? I am seeing consultant a few days after my return from holiday so will raise it with him.
Sandra
From 8 weeks been walking WITHOUT limp. Sorry for typo
Special assistance at the airport is a great idea, and as you say Renee is a wonderful source of information on this forum. When we start walking, we forget just how fast the world expects us to walk, and initially we just cannot keep up with the pace or distance of 'normal' walking. I found that when commuting to work in London on train, tube and bus.
Good luck with the aquarobics and limp-free walking, hope the in-turning leg gets sorted soon.

Well done Sandra, my foot turned out on operated leg. Surgeon gave me an exercise to turn foot in and it worked. Hip surgeon has an answer for you x
That's brilliant news. Thank you x
Dear Sandra
How wonderful...wish I was there too!
Great that you had good support at the airport. You will return home fitter with all the swimming.
As for my leg turning in that's not something I've noticed ..just checked and no hint of it!
All the best
Richard
Glad you’re having a great time, enjoy the sun! Can’t help with the knee I’m afraid. I was marching down escalators yesterday, knees were rubbish!
dear sandra,
How wonderful to read this ... after the initial feelings of guilt and embarrassment, it is smooth sailing - I was pleasantly surprised about the not standing in line to check in etc....
I hope you requested same for return flight ...
The knee is a delicate joint - I know when I have over corrected my posture when walking for instance - especially without aids - is there some swelling? maybe put some ice on it ...
watch your step, darling
hope the weather is nice ---
big warm hug
renee
thank you Renee. Swimming throughout each day is helping loads. Yes I've booked assistance on return flight.
Sandra x
Thanks Richard
I am swimming about every couple of hours and yes it's doing me the world of good. I can feel my muscles getting much stronger as I swim but also finding walking around on steps and slopes much easier too
Sandra
Dear Sandra
Excellent news ...sounds like just what the doctor ordered! All the best. Richard
It all sounds great! I was swimming in the local lido this morning.......in the London drizzle! Enjoy the sun!
