I’m 19 years old 11 days post op for ankle fracture surgery, with a plate and screws. I’m currently in a half cast dealing with no pain? i can wiggle my toes and move my ankle around in the cast with only mild discomfort from feeling the plate and screws inside. The swelling and bruising on my foot and toes reduced by A LOT, and i’m now able to rest my leg without feeling pain from the pressure. I’m also not on painkillers, just a muscle relaxer at night for the restlessness of not being able to do much. My appointment is on the 18, and they plan to put a boot on. I’m not sure if they mentioned physical therapy but i’m assuming that’s how it’s usually goes. Since i’m healing so well and dealing with minimal pain, is there any chance of not needing physical therapy, and walking any sooner?
Those are all great things. Just dont get ahead of yourself. There is still a lot going on inside your leg wether u feel it or not. Things neex to heal and that takes time. 11 days is basically nothing. Very early days. No pain is great. Just take it easy and follow your doctors instructions. Recovery is different person to person. You just very well be one of the lucky ones but like i said dont get ahead of yourself. You may still need PT but maybe not for very long. Everyone is different. Good luck on your recovery. I hope its as speedy as possible. Im 3 months post op from Orif surgery on a trimal and still non weight bearing. But that was due to infection and now open wounds after 4 debridement surgeries. Because i thought because i had no pain i didnt have to follow instructions. I wasnt elevating enough. I was on my feet too much etc. And its caused me nothing but complications. Follow instructions from your surgeon to the T. Good luck.
Hi Shay,
It sounds like it is going very well for you which is good!
My experience hasn't been quite the same, I am 6 weeks post op and am hoping to get the boot today and have a chance at some comfort.
From what I have read physio is alway required although I would guess that the amount depends on the individual, we are all different and heal differently afterall!!
Not wanting to put doubt in your mind but the letter they gave me said that I would have a boot after 2 weeks of the same cast as you but came home with a full cast.
If you are already not taking an pain killers etc and the swelling and bruising has gone down then it sounds really good to me that you should get the boot and be fine... but I know nothing except to compare it to my experience ![]()
I wish you all the best for a speedy recovery!
