I am going to be 11 weeks on Good Friday and friends would like to celebrate my birthday and new hip! I am wondering what I will be up to? Will I manage a night of cocktails and heels or should I be persuading them to lower their sights?????? It is a jazz night evening......desperate to have fun so if it is possible.....
Really pleased for you...It will be like a new beginning as well as a new year ...I'd wear high heels if I could ..have a great time congratulations
Shoes may be an issue, but as for the rest of it, PARTY!
I am out on 30th Jan for my birthday bash. Gotta be done! X
confused here ... lower their sights to what - what are their expectations, sweetheart ? dancing on tables, probably not - but who knows -
listening to Jazz, drinking coctails ? you betcha .... heels? not sure ...
I am so excited for you though ....
How did you do this past week ?
big warm hug

Hi Rose
I had my op on 5th November and went to the office post Christmas party on Friday 9 weeks post op. Took my stick with me mainly for confidence and after a couple of glasses of wine was up boogying ! Work colleagues were very impressed (not at my 'mum' dancing I am 60 after all) but at how well I am doing. I had slight heels on havent been able to wear stilettos for years. Felt no ill effects since so am sure you being much younger will be fine darling - go and enjoy you deserve it have been watching your progress love Julie
Hope you do it Rose! Maybe not skyscraper heels though, although I have some high platform heels I wore pre surgery! Maybe go careful on the cocktails too but you deserve a good night to celebrate your birthday. You never know you might be more agile than pre-op xx
Renee Nights out with my friends can last to 2am involve lots of cocktails and they are all mostly likely to dance - I am not so worried about heels but wouldn't want to sit and watch everyone else dancing on my birthday and be sitting on my own - much like the years before the operation - it used to make me so sad. So unless I can join in a bit would rather change the plan to dinner where I can definitely join in enthusiastically
Past week is up and down - but definitely getting easier - how about you lovely?
Thank you Holly! Yes I haven't worn heels for years either. - might not worry about heels, but would just love to go -
What you are doing for your birthday Gertie?
Oh my Julia that is incredible!!!!!!! You must have been delighted! Wow that has given me confidence to at least give it a go, I can always come home early! That a lovely moment for you - as it is something most of us couldn't do before the operation. I always think breakthrough moments make it all worth it , particularly the ones elusive before the replacement.
I would settle to feel confident on a normal loo seat for now but have my beady eye on the future....but want to remain realistic - the two haven't matched up lately and I always want to run before I can hobble!!
Hi Rose I reckon you can have fun with the cocktails dancing and yr friends but I would leave the heels at home!! Annie
I looked like a little granny of a hundred and seven years old before my operation, so haven't got much if a bench mark !! In fact I would say that in some ways I am better now - certainly in less pain which has been a joy - how are you this week?
Haha I'm sure you didn't! I went on a girls holiday with some friends just before my op. Wore heels every night (the theory was no one would notice my limp late at night and I walked better in heels + a few vodkas!) did nothing during the day but by the time I came home I knew I couldn't have carried on any longer, struggled to walk through the airport and the pain unbearable.
I went out with my husband last night to a local restaurant, hopping on one leg with 2 crutches. Was lovely to sit at a table and feel normal. Nearly had an accident in the ladies though as the floor was very slippy and my crutches slid everywhere, shook me up a bit. The loo was very low so had to stick my leg out in front but managed and had a lovely night.

Rose,
You just have to do it, but you must report back here mind.
Graham - 🚀💃
I bet you'll do great ...so much better than pre-op for sure ...
My week has been up and down too - was locked up in the house for 3 days due to icy conditions (Code Red) -
I would definitely go, and I'll bet you'll be able to do some dancing! As others have said, you might want to wear some lower heels and go easy on the drinking, but that shouldn't stop you from having a wonderful time! I "danced" at a wedding recently, holding my crutch in one hand and it felt great! We do what we can...
Yes, do watch out folks, wet floor tiles are treacherous. Take tiny steps so weight better balanced
Hi rose,
At 11 weeks I think you'll be more than ready to party. No more being a wall flower whilst everyone else dances this year for you!
Something for you to look forward to through the next weeks of recovery.
TH x
I was 11 weeks post op at our works Xmas party. It was the first real social event since I had the op I was so determined to wear high heels and dance all night....and I did! And boy did I enjoy it 👍🏼
For a year leading up to my op I was only able to walk on 2 crutches and before that I was in a lot of pain, I always tried to be happy watching others dance and I tried to be happy and smiley but I wanted to dance too!
Anyway, the party was fabulous. I wore my heels and a dress and I danced from 8pm till about 1.30am....I ached a little the next day but a 'duvet day' sorted me out. 😂
Go for it, just listen to your body and if it says stop, then stop. Have a great time X
I'm going to Mexico post op 12 weeks hoping to party in flats
