11weeks post op

I am 11 weeks after thr and am still not sleeping.have had couple of blips, bad infection in stitches and a lot of pain too of leg, although no longer need crutches or toilet seat just still feel tired and because of my job still don't feel well enough to go bac to work yet as energy and strength level to be on my feet for eight hours straight. Suggestions please, am waiting for xray results as slipped in ice and if ok doctor is referring me for physio

Hi - I am 13 weeks and am only just about starting to feel 'normal', and not exhausted all the time. I thought maybe I was anaemic and got blood tests done and am waiting for the results but actually I think it's probably because I'm still having interrupted night's sleep  - maybe being tired is just my body's way of making sure I rest enough to heal properly? Lots of people here on the forum talk about being tired and this did reassure me that maybe it'you s normal.  Is it worth asking for blood tests in case you are anaemic?  Are you eating well?? There's absolutely no way I could do a full day's work even now and I hope you're able to take as much time off as you need. Are you still taking pain killers at night? Just to help sleep.  Also if you can get physio, that might be a good idea - their exercises helped me relax, knowing that I was getting stronger  all the time ...did you injure yourself when you slipped on the ice? Scarey... take care....

Only get stay sick pay but would rather wait till I can go back to work properly without on/off cause don't want to give owner cause to give me notice xx Ye prob need to start pain relief tablets again

Georgina,

I quit taking pain meds (the narcotics) they give after two weeks. I had to take Tylenol PM or another over the counter sleep aid for a few days. But I did not want to take the prescription any longer than I had to. I also took supplements before and after surgery so I really didn't notice any tiredness that I can remember. I did notice a surge in energy when I was able to get out and about I was so happy!

I agree with Helen, after surgery I was anemic also and very tired from it.

Both pain and infection can cause poor sleep and fatigue, not to mention the stress of surgery. Are you eating well? Taking any vitamins or supplements?  I would think if you have a physically demanding( yes, 8 hrs on feet is demanding) job you might want to be stronger before work.

wishing you best of luck
