12 Days Till Hip # 2 Surgery

Not sure if I'm excited or nervous at this point.  probably more excited

Hey John! It's good to be excited. The process is long and hard but well worth it. Many blessings ahead. Be kind and patient to yourself and follow the instructions your doctors and physical therapist. Blessings! Teresa

Tree,

Been thru this last December so I know what to expect.  The last one went really well I was back to work after 14 days and I am expecting this one to be the same.  But every surgery is different so if my body is telling me otherwise I will listen and not rush it.  Have a great day!

8 days to go for me, it's just starting to sink in! I'm not used to hospitals so I guess "apprehensive" is the best word to describe me at the moment.

Regards

Norm

14 days?? I’m 14 days today & still waiting to sleep 😢

Not long then. Ive got mine 29th Dec im abit if both nervous & excited. Best of luck for you.

Hey John wishing you the best! I was both excited and nervous. I just had my second almost 4 wks ago.

My first was so easy. This time I’m healing a lot slower. But it’s better than the pain I had before.

Keep us posted!!

If you are like I was, crazy with pain, and unable to walk, do shopping, needed a wheelchair to go to the Dr's.

The specialist I think was shocked to his socks when I said how soon can we get this over and done with, when he told me I needed a hip replacement, DUHHHHH, with the amount of pain I was in what did he think I needed a big toe transplant.

I was well and truly ready for the hip replacement, I had a uncle, Bill, who in his 80's had a double hip replacement 6 weeks apart, and he told me, "I WAS NUTS WAITING SO LONG", the result has given me my life back, and yes don't kid yourself the first few weeks are challenging, but what I was amazed at was the pain from my hip joint was gone, the first time they stood me up I recognised that, and I had movement back.

Pain was in the muscles and the cut where they had needed to get into the joint.

Good Luck   Here is a couple tips that I didn't know  before the surgery and it would have made a bid difference if I had known.

1.  If you have a problem with swelling or anything call your private Dr. as the Ortho Surgeon usually doesn't

     follow up after surgery.

2.  Ask about Compression Stalkings.  You probably will need them.

3.  You probably will be a little  black and blue and swollen on your surgery leg

4.  Make sure you have  your house ready for after the surgery with high rise tolite

5.  Make sure you have a lot of help when you come home

6. Have Ice bags ready and lots of pillows to prop your feet on.

******I did most of these things but a couple of these things really should have been explained to me prior.

Everyone is different and I hope you breeze through this.  Remember it gets easier everyday.

Ten more days for mine. J can't wait! The pain is awful. I am having my left hip done first.( Direct Anterior) and my right 8 weeks later. I am so ready to be out of misery.  Good luck with your upcoming surgery!

Hi everyone 120hours and counting till my first , think we all feel the same nervous but excited in a strange way, certainly know I cant 'put up with the pain and disability both hips are giving me now ,just trying to project my thoughts 6 months ahead when hopefully both will be done and well on the way to healing.

all the best to my fellow December fellow

That should read ...all the best to my fellow December hippies !

All the best with your op and a speedy ish recovery, I'm still waiting to get my appointment with specialist, keep on the focus for 6 months ahead, you'll get there.

Stay safe 😀

Pete

Thanks for your thoughts Pete hope you aren't suffering too much at the moment hips can get worse very quickly do push things along if you are struggling .Just hoping this stupid cold I have had for past week clears really don't want to postpone things now .Will keep updated on here
