12 weeks post op

12 weeks post op posterior hip replacement. Can anyone tell me how long we have to keep up with the exercises for ? Also is it normal at this stage for the scar to still be tender and the buttock muscles to still be sore ? Thanks in advance.

Hi Mary its only 3 weeks since l had my hip replacement, but a friend of mine says her buttock still sore after almost 3 months, my wound is sore due to going for a short walk today, l am sure from what i have read on here that its normal to still be tender Linda

Life > I still do mine 3 years later a couple of times a week

yes normal to feel tender

Thanks Linda.

I am starting into my 9th week and my incision is still very tender. I’m told it will be for a good while. I have to be careful to pat a bit more there after showering than drying or it feels as if I am tearing it open. My butt muscles also get sore. I didn’t have real good mobility for such a while before surgery - I attribute it to them going thru some strengthening whining. I do notice also that when I have been up without sitting too long that they get that way... I keep them tensed still like I did before surgery... you’d think I should have buns of steel by now - but - nope! How are you as far as discomfort and as far as mobility at this point?

Everyone is different, but I would say you are normal.  There are a lot of things that need to go through healing and your muscles have to relearn too.

Everyone is different on how their body responds to the recovery.  I am over 16 weeks and continue with a dull pain but it doesn’t prevent me from doing anything.  For me, daily exercise is a way of life

Thank you

thanks Maggie I am still exercising 2 times daily but this seems to aggravate things .

thanks Kathi, walking is fine for me but after sitting when i rise again that's when the problem is . Also when exercising

thanks Ducksoup , I also am doing things regardless

I seem to get tighter as the day goes on - but those muscles seem to like when I put a bit of heat to them in the evening - tends to relax them and aids in the feeling of thickness and stiffness.

Thanks for the tip .

Nearly 2.5 years later, I still do my exercises!   At 12 weeks, it is still early days, so it will feel tender.

Lots of work to do to build up those muscles!

Best wishes

Graham

Hi Graham, did you have a hip replacement? I had mine just over 3 weeks ago, l think l am doing ok, l do my exercises every day but sometimes l think l do too much, 😊

Yes, mine was 2.5 years ago now.

Do whatever the physios tell you, no more, no less.

It is a long, slow recovery to full fitness, but it IS worth it.

Agreed

i find the same,Mary-ive not done my exercises for 2 days after i went for a hilly walk,im ten weeks post op,ive never been able to do the full amount expected, some of them-like sole weight bearing on bad leg-are just too difficult, though they are getting easier.but i do find its better (for me)to do them earlier in the day before i get tired, which often means i only do them once a day-still,i am improving-just not as fast as id like!good luck x

Thanks Pam , I am still exercising twice daily

Thanks yes no two days are the same, muscles hurt then knees then wound, things worry me sometimes like stiffness, but then another day feel proud if myself, how far i have come, hearing grom others is really good and helps a lot 😊
