I am 12 weeks pregnant and have been having severe pain in right upper abd under my ribs. I had an ultrasound done this week showing my gallbladder having a lot of stones and sludge in there and stones on the duct. Surgeon wants to do surgery when I’m 15 weeks. I do not know what do do. He wants to do an MRI 2 days before surgery and says if there are still stones in there then it would be an open surgery not lap. ****
Has anyone else gone through this?
i had an attack at 6 weeks pregnant and then after that it didnt happen until after giving birth, my dr told me that during pregnancy there was nothing they could do until either at 37 weeks or after i give birth, i was lucky enough to not have another attack during my pregnancy and i was told i had alot of stones and after my pregnancy i had a ultrasound and it got worst, i hope u can get relief and your gallbladder can calm down
hi jen.
and i dont blame you one bit !
he must know something you dont !
i think the best but of advice i can give you is to get in contact with
mr charles imber .
at the london digestive centre 42 welbeck st london.
at at the very least go have a consultasion with him .
its 250 for the consultation len.
but i think you might be in a bad dangerous situation here , just as i was.
and he is like the very very best.
and you should consider his advise ,
he done my surgery.
he is a british pioneering genral surgeon and he is one of the very best in the world
in this field.
it took me a long long time and alot of agony to find this man !!
for your safety and peace of mind , give him a call and you will not go wrong.
best of luck whatever you decide.
but for a surgeon to say he wants to operate at that stage in a pregnancy , dont
sound the norm to me , so either hes a lunatic surgeon or he knows something you dont !!
i hope it works out for you .
Hello,
For me, having my GB out was no biggie and it was not particularly sore as it was keyhole surgery. What I do know is that if you have had a pain episode, it will probably happen again and become a problem for you at some point. Another consideration is that your GB may become more inflamed in which case it becomes a little harder for surgeons to see which duct is which, amongst all your ‘goopy’ inflammation.
However, they usually only do open surgery if there is a known problem because it’s a longer recovery period. Is it perhaps that your surgeon has most concern about the stones in the ducts rather than the GB and that they may ‘lose’ them during the op?BTW a normal lap cholecystectomy involves an insertion just above your navel and I don’t know if that can be avoided?
I think, due to your pregnancy I would be asking to speak to a consultant or two or three. Persevere with getting some answers from the pro’s and from people who have had the same problem like sam9032.
You have a lot going on and I wish you well and hope you have no more attacks in the near future and stay off the greasy food (even if it’s your latest craving)!
All the best and let us know how you go on.
Emma
