13 weeks post op getting lot of pain

Hi everyone, I have replyed and joined in loads of discussions. I had hip replacement on October 27th has a few probs and not back at work yet. Last few days am getting really bad sharp pains towards top of leg. Can anyone give me a clue, am waiting for some physio referred from doctors, but just getting worried as my bosses are not gonna wait forever for me to go back to work.

Hi Georgina

What are the chances of you ringing the hospital {physio dept} explaining to them what you have told us about your job etc.....I'm sorry I was retired when I had both of mine done so dont know about the work situation.

arthritis care have a lot of information about surgery and exercises post op. Or just exercises for arthritis....if you go onto the web site and ring the helpline {at the top of the page} they will send you information

Pain in your groin?

Hi Georgina.

Sorry to hear you are still suffering pain. I'm sorry I have no advice as you are much further on than me. I have good days and bad days but do understand that it is still important to push through those exercises to get those muscles back working even if it is painful. It is easy to get depressed if you don't think you are making the progress you should. Try not to worry about work, I'm sure they will give more time if needed. Best of luck. Chris

Sounds likes to could be nerve pain as the joint is settling in but I would advise you to discuss with your doctor as self diagnosis can be a bad thing

Sue you are so right! Self diagnosing beyond the point of using it to think of questions to ask the doctor, can end up frightening. My own imagination can take me down the scary path! Ha!

It has not been that long since your op.. I got mine when I was 39 and was a full time nurse doing 12 HR shifts.. I was still in a lot of pain at 13 weeks.. No way I could have went back ten but did worry a bit coz some times of feel ok then would get pain in foot, knee and groin ( nerve pain) I iswd to worry because I'd read some people on here were doing great walking miles and back to work... I think you can have 6 mths off your work.. A Dr can not say you r for for woe if you tell them you are not .. They go by what u feel most of the time... If u r still not better by then you will be able to get PIP ( personal independent payment) don't go back too early your hip has to last you..

I'm back to work now and so glad I took the full 6 months before I went back but still took another 4 months before it wasn't sore at all at work because it was just getting used to a lot of movement again... Hope that helps xx

Thanks everyone everyone keeps saying it's only 13 weeks, like you have said Wendy one day fine then another day it hurts so much, had really bad nite last nite and today really sharp pains at top of scar and near bottom off it

I used to get that sting pain at scar but I'm sure there are about 3 muscles under there healing.. I used to lie in bed and put a cold face cloth on it... Helped a wee bit..it's been 1year 5 months now since my op and still get a wee bit pain now and again on the scar and if u actually feel u can feel your muscles miss shaped a bit.

Ah thanks Wendy it's just I feel a fraud sometimes but I know that if I go bac at moment to work I do everything on my own. I am a cook at a nursery and also help in the rooms at dinner time bending stretching orders everything. I just want to go back and be able to do my job without being off/on plus only get stat sick pay so cannot afford days were get nothing if i am off again

I only got SSP when o was off as well but then PIP. Is the same amount.. Thing is you always find a way to manage money wise.. U need to get yourself better or u will be off and on all the time.. I think I went back on half days after 12 weeks coz some days I felt ok but it was a wrong move . I only did two shifts and had to go on sick again..that's when I decided I would take the full 6 off.. While your work pals are running about or even slagging you off for not being in.. The job will still be there when u r going for your other op because u didn't give yourself time to heal.. Work is a small part of life when health is concerned xxx

Ps you r still entitled to your full SSP.. But you have to be off 4 days before u can get it.. If u keep going back when not fit you will be wasting it because I think it is the 6 mths in total on the year .. But u may have to look it up but I defo got told when my SSP was going to run out and who to contact for PIP..
