Hello everyone, I am 13 years post TKR and out of the blue at work yesterday my knee became stiff and painful. It is swollen but not red and was only hurting when I tri to bend it but now I have it elevated all morning and now I am experiencing severe sharp stabbing pain in the joint. Any ideas?
Hi Cindy.
I am sorry to hear about your knee, all I can suggest is that you either make an appointment with your gp or are you able to go into a walk in centre to seek further advice.
I am sorry that I cannot help you.

Thank you, I'll give it until tomorrow and then go to the doctor.
13 years must be near the limit for TKR see your GP
thats exactly what I thought, ,your post has just brought home to me that I will probably have to go through all this again, as I am only 13 week post op its not really something I want to think about best wishes and good luck
Hi hope you're not in too much pain. Ice if you can and keep it elevated. Take anti inflammatory if you have any but most of all....see your GP asap. If it gets worse don't hesitate go to A&E please don't suffer unnecessary. Really hope it's not bad news
Personally, I think unless youve had a fall a joint replacement wears out slowly it doesn't come on suddenly ..have you taken your temperature, because if you have a fever it's better to look at it earlier than later in case of infection. My knee is 16 years old, so it should have some time to go...
good luck keep us posted...
Thank you all, I'll ke you posted. I've had it elevated all day with ice and ibuprofen. It maybe a little better but defiantly not right. I too am confused about the sudden onset and at 13 years I'm afraid it maybe at the end of function, although I was really hoping for the 20 year mark. I'm so hoping that's not the case. I will never go through that surgery again. It was the worse pain I have ever experienced and I had 3 children natural haha. Thank you again for the comments.
