It is normal karen because healing is still taking place and will for a little while yet. The throbbing is very common and if you witnessed how the operation is performed as I have you would understand why.

Ok that reply made me wince !!!!

Thank you matron i was getting worried as I was beginning to think op had gone wrong as bowels have always been a problem. I don't think we realise what the recovery involves or how long it takes x

Don't worry because recovery from this surgery takes time and any operation involving the bowel can be painful and recovery slow.

Lol me too. I  had an epidural and a sedative so woke up before they had finished and saw my leg up high but the great thing was no grogginess or nausea as no general anaesthetic I know how they make you feel from my hemmoroidectomy op another lovely recovery that was. Not !! X

Do they lay you on your side with one leg in the air. Do they also put a neckbrace on to keep your neck straight while turning you?

Your legs are placed in lithotomy poles so your legs are in the air basically but they don't put your head in a neck brace. When you're turned your legs will be removed from the poles and if you need to be turned it will be done carefully by several theatre staff.

I was just wonder because my jaw and chin hurt when I woke up. 😃😃

I know why. When the anaesthetist brings you round from the anaesthetic he will raise your chin up to maintain your airway. You'll have probably seen it on the television.

All I can he must have been bl*&dy rough then.😃😃

Oh dear. Did you have a sore throat?

Hi karen, I too have this . I am so exhausted after I have been for a BM. There is no real pain just discomfort and I throbbing like you mentioned and a really heavy feeling in my rectum perinieum area. It feels like its all about to fall out, though I tgell myself thats silly I too worry that it is failing. I think I also have what fels like piles - truly hope its not some prolapse again and this also throbs and is f=difficult to clean. Oh the joys of this operation. I had been walking around the house a little but ventured out for a 15 minute trip with real walking to shopping mall yesterday. Only there an our but walked alot and whole area down there throbbed even more. So taking it easy to day. Maybe Matron could answer this one. Why do they wait so long to get us checked out. * weeks seems a long time. It would be wonderful to have a nurse or doc check you after a couple of weeks and then a month say just so we could be reassured everything is okay down there. Anyway Karen hoping to take it easy to day , hope you are too. I find the water on the pad and freeze it like a ice pack works for a while to stop the throbbing. Of course the pain killers help but they make me feel groggy so only take strong ones when needed. Sue we will feel better soon. Few lladies have mentioned groggy feeling gos after about 3 weeks. Must kkep Positive . hope you will too. Chat soon. big hug

great to read this reply matron as I am feeling same throbbing and heaviness toether with some swelling in that area and it is reassuring to know it is normal. Are plies cmmon with this type of operation or are the lumps I can feel down there just inflammation from the op? is it safe to use suppositeries? Thanks

Hi Tilley I am so glad that it is not just me feeling this way not that I want anybody else to be suffering its just reassuring to know this is normal after this op yes I too worry that prolapse has not gone or is returning. It would be good to have a check up after a couple of weeks to put our minds at rest as reading other posts this is when we all seem to get anxious. I have not ventured put since I had my little trip to the supermarket didn't want to chance it again just yet but I am getting a little stir crazy i have had quite a few visitors to keep me company though, and my hubby is getting the hang of the oven quite nicely. Take it easy today and put your feet up Tilley . we are moving on to week 3 now and looking forward to improving take care xxx

I forget to add that in hospital they gave me a glycerine suppository to get things moving and I have used once since dont know if matron advises to use them we will await her reply TilleyTilley

Good morning. A glycerine suppository is fine to use. It's nice and gentle but should help things along.

The lumps you feel are more likely to be swelling rather than piles. If you're prone to piles I think they do swell if you're constipated after this operation but I think it's the swelling.

Hi I had A&P repair on 17th feb I have found this site a fabulous support as I am sure you will. Matron is an angel she is off the site as of today but returning 18th march but all the other ladies are a great support also. you will always get answers and great advice myself and Tilley had our surgery very close together even though we are both at different sides of the world it is great to talk to others going through the same emotions and symptoms both before and after surgery x
