hi all, well after the blood clot on the lungs two weeks ago, I am recovering from that, but I am still not able to lay on scar area and around the scar feels numb has any one had similar, I am thinking to see my GP tomorrow to make sure all is Ok, Janet from Rugby UK
Should read 14 weeks after THR operation
Hi Janei developed a blood clot on the lung during THR too.
Am revovering fine - warfarin stuff is v time consuming with clinics etc. Breathlessness now gone but still inundated with phlegm and can't understand why this is happening
First of all, 3+ months post op is still in very early healing stage. Do t hey say why the blood clot, anything to do with anesthesia? I didn't have that issue thank goodness, but had the anterior approach and rehab/recovery was very good all in all but I'm left with a lot of complications 4 yrs post op...nerve damage and some other stuff....
I'm finally fairly comfortable sleeping on the op side but I don't stay there long and it's 4 yrs for me. We've been THRU MAJOR SURGERY and all this takes lots of time for MOST of us. I'm certain your doc will say "you are fine"....I haven't run back to the surgeon a lot, 3 times since surgery and got help from his PA online and lots of help from these blogs. Take care and try not to worry as this all takes TIME.....
Mines numb as well, mostly the bottom half, below my scar. Spoke to surgeon about it and it's normal for nerves to be cut. I've had other surgery around my hip and belly so I know this is normal- I have some numbness around each scar. Feels so weird right?
I am 4 weeks out and not comfortable laying on my scar since it's on my side.
so happy your lung incident did heal and you are okay!
Ji Janet..had my THR 11.Feb and the scar area is stil l a bit dead to the touch....but all is well now.....took part in a masters Athletics Competition over the weekend and did very well without any discomfort....it all takes a bit of time for the systems around the hip to heal properly...in my case about 5 months...even though I was driving and walking un-aided after 10 days. The blood clot is a scary situation.....but you are through that and on the mend.....climb stairs as often as you can....that is the best strenghtening exercise you can do right now.....everything of the best....
Hi all thanks for all your positive comments, I think after the Blood clot I am a bit paranoid, continually thinking that things aren't right, I find that this blog is great as whenever I have a problem and get such positive comments back it immediately makes me feel better about the situations.
thanks to all
Janet
only now 6 months after THR has feeling in the surface area of the scar returned and the lumpy feeling along the scar smoothed out. the line of the scar is still purple but it will eventually turn white. with surgery thousand of little nurve endings were destroyed it takes time to repair and regenerate. the numbness was like how your mouth and cheek feel after nervocane at the dentist it will eventually go. my GP suggested gentle tapping and massage of the scar line would help speed skin surface recovery
Hi Janet, i'm 7.4 weeks post revision and I'm finding it a bit uncomfortable to lie on the operated side for too long at night. The skin around my scar feels a bit weird but not necessarily numb! The scar itself looks fantastic, almost like the original one did before he cut into it again. I'm sleeping with a long bolster between my knees and hugging it, however it can get a bit heavy when I'm lying on the operated side. I'm sure what you are experiencing is quite normal. As everyone has said, nerves were cut into during surgery and they take a long, long time to recovery, if ever (my hysterectomy scar is still numb after 25 years!). Try not to wrry but if you are worried def see your GP for reassurance as much as anything. Take care.

Just a quick question, when did you start sleeping on non operated side, as I am not doing that at the moment.
thanks
Janet
Hi - I started sleeping on my non-operated side at 6 weeks - the physio had said not to until I'd slept on my operated side for 6 weeks but I really couldn't stand it so I just turned over - it was bliss! I'm very careful about keeping the bolster between my knees when I turn over. There was no way I was going back to sleeping on my back (or rather not sleeping!). Since then I've been able to sleep about 2 to 3 hours at a time on either side and some nights even longer. I sometimes wake up aching but that soon wears off - I'm better tempered for the good sleep though!
