Well I am 14 weeks on I have been feeling good. Getting ready for a cruise with a wonderful hubby who has been fantastic throughout this journey. He felt we needed some us time????????? Today I have spent packing and sorting out the house etc. tonight wow the knee has decided that it will play up. It is swollen, tight, and painfull. I have iced excercised and elevated oh yes rested between doing things but have resorted to taking pain relief ( I haven't needed the heavy stuff for a couple of weeks) but wow it will not behave it self. Have I missed anything?
Hi Louise,
i went on a cruise 6 months post op. I enjoyed it but found the walking a bit of an effort at times. I'm sure you'll be fine but, at 14 weeks I know I would have struggled a bit. Make sure you keep up your exercises and still get plenty of rest. I'd avoid lots of walking on shore if I were you and enjoy the food and drink on board 😊
Hope you enjoy.
Jen (10 months post op)
Thanks Jennifer I am dreading the shore days as I think hubby thinks I will be ok. Still will make sure we have coffee breaks! We here did you go?
Maybe you have been overdoing it with the packing etc - slow down and have a fab time. Take a folding walking stick - it may come in useful if your leg gets tired and on steps. Enjoy
We went to the Canaries and North Africa. It was unusually chilly and so we didn't get as much sun as we'd hoped but it was still enjoyable. That's right - have plenty of breaks and don't be afraid to take an afternoon nap - or should I say, siesta 😊
Thanks for that I didn't think of a stick with seat might have time in morning to get one
Thanks we are of to med. supposed to be lovely and warm, that should help with the bones, ( I hope)
Louise, I think you'll do okay...just no dancing all night. I would make sure you can take time to ice it and perhaps have some stronger pain meds available. At 10 weeks I flew from India to Thailand and Myanmar for a two week vacation with friends. I took it easy when I could, stretching out on a sofa to get my leg up. But I also walked around and saw the sights. Just don't push very hard. And if you do (like today) try to take the next day to rest more. Have fun!!!
Wow what was it like in Thailand & Myanmar.? I will take it very easy only problem is the right arm / hand where the drinks will be
If it's a big ship, hope your cabin is midships . . We had a cabin right in the stern of one mega liner, and we seemed to spend all our holiday walking to the bows for the dining room, then to the stern for the show! Still, it's a great holiday, and enjoy it! We've been on 27 cruises, loved them all except one! Maybe pick some excursions which are recommended for minimum walking! Quite a few of the excursions are actually walking tours around the cities visited, and can be quite exhausting!
Wow 27 cruises! I've done 3. 1 to the baltics 2 to to see the Northern lights and this one to the med! What ships have you used.
Princess (Royal and Crown) Enchantment of the Seas, Sovereign of the Seas, emerald, emerald Seas, Seawing, southward, MSC Armonia, Costa Fascinosa, Leo superstar, Island Escape (only bad one!!!) Carousel, heavens, can't remember them all!!!
Wow we have only done P&O and Fred Olsen. Must try the rest one day
Noordam, emerald, Emerald Seas, Sovereign of the Seas, Enchantment of the Seas, Seawing, Carousel, Island Escape, Crown Princess, Royal Princess, Leo superstar, Grand Voyager, Grand Holiday, Costa fascinosa, MSC ??? heavens, it was only last Christmas . . don't remember them all but have been on cruises on every continent except Antartcic . . love them all!!!
I regret not having done some of the upmarket ones, like Azamara or Oceania. . and it's a bit late now as hubby doesn't want to travel. I love them all. . . the cheapies and the quality ones...not fussy really!
