Well believe me you will be a lot better very soon, I’m just over 4 weeks post op, I know how your feeling ![]()
It’s very early days for you at the moment, I was also in a bad place in the first 48 hrs, if you take the pain medication and try rest you will feel good soon. Try chill if you can, where about are you located
you will be surprised how much better you feel in a couple of days, I’ve been there
I’m positive you will be fine soon, don’t forget to ask for some strong pain medication, keep the faith…
All the best and keep in touch…

You will feel better. I also had terrible groin and butt pain but that comes from the surgery and the prosthesis that the body must get use to. Remember we were cut, hammered and muscles were moved to accept our new hip. Take some deep breathes and try to relax. It takes time. praying for you.
Oh bless you it does hurt to start with, you’ve had a major operation, and it will take some time to recover. I’ll give you one piece of advice and that is: NEVER be afraid to ask for more pain relief! Only you know how much pain you are feeling, the medical professionals are excellent, but they cannot know unless you tell them, so keep pressing your bell and get more. I found the only thing that helped initially was liquid morphine or “oromorph”, but the doctor will advise what you should take. Also don’t be afraid to ask to see a doctor if your pain is too bad. As others have said, rest, take pain meds and get up as soon as the physios ask you to, your pain will get better - that fact is inevitable xxxx hugs ![]()

thanks folks. got plenty meds overnight and its still sore whats worrying me is that its the same pain i had before the op, horrific bottom & groin pain as well as hip thighs etc
Consultant said i had lots of fluid on the joint, not sure of the significance of that??
So sorry to hear about your pain Jo. We all recover at different rates and some have more pain in the beginning than others. It’s very early for you, just 15 hours post op so try not to panic. Have as much pain relief as you need and make sure you keep the medical staff properly informed about exactly how you feel. I hope you start to feel better very soon. Do post and let your fellow hippies know how you’re getting on.
Inflammation will make you sore until all of that excess fluid is gone. You will be fine. I am praying for you.
i’m just starting my 3rd week post op and finally noticing the pain is less. Rest, ice, meds and more ICE is what you need. I expected more but sooner but we need time to heal. You may not notice improvement each day but you will soon notice the change to feeling better.
dont be rushed home you are in the best place it will get better x
Update* Day 3 and the pain is so much better. wound us painful and a massive bruise (Consultant said hes not seen one that big or dark!) but able to get home today
Thanks for your support folks ![]()

Pete…
That’s great, Jo. You get along so much better at home. I think it’s just being in your own environment makes you more relaxed and confident. I hope your progress is as quick and easy as mine. I am now 13 weeks post op and, apart from a little deep, inner soreness which is obviously soft tissue which takes longer to hear and the occasional prickle on the scar, I wouldn’t know I’d had such a major operation. It’s wonderful. Little tip for getting in and out of bed. Loop a dressing gown cord under your foot and help to lift the leg in and out. It really makes it easier and your aren’t paranoid that you might dislocate the new joint. Good luck with your continued recovery.
Thanks for the tips folks, feeling better being at home, lets hope the recovery carries on. x
During the early stages right after surgery its good to stay on a regular schedule for pain meds. stay ahead of the pain will help you fell better and also help do bed exercises and keep the swelling under control.
take it easy for the first few weeks eat well exercise in bed to keep blood flow and remember ’ RICE’ …. rest, ice , compress and elevate. many healing blessing sent your way? xxxxHOPE
I was told to walk “heel to toe” alternating each foot. When I focused on doing that, my walking was very good with no limping or shuffling. Takes time to have a good walking gait. It will get better.
its getting past the first few weeks its the toughest and in time it will get better. i wish you well on your journey to recovery. soon you will be so happy with your shinny new hip past the PT and so glad you had the surgery! Be sure to take your pain meds on schedule and for PT. you are so brave to be a hew hippie. many posts from other hippies will be around soon to help and answer any questions you have all with helpful suggestions. been thru a couple thr and each one is different. in time it all becomes a faint memory and life is good movin on ! .xxxxxHope
