Jackie,
I'm sorry to hear about your problem. I'm not familiar with using wires for hips. Can you give us a little more detail. I had a THR 5 mo ago and am really interested in what is going on with people. Do you live in the U.K.?
Kathee
Loose wires? I have had the cap of my device come loose (despite 7 screws) after revision and it's moving up into my pelvis. Not good.
Next revision of it in May.
Hi edarling, Im just beside myself , I finally felt like i was coming along ok then i was walking at the store one day I felt horriable pain I had to hold on to my daughter to get to the car. I found new surgeon and he ordered ct scan and bllod work.

Hi kathee, I had revsion Oct 2013 with alot bone lose so they use wires to hold together. I live in the US revsions are alot more complicated so im told. My first thr was in Nov 1993 Lasted 21 years I never dreamed i would be going through this

You're obviously distressed, but it would help those of us here to try to help you if you could explain exactly what has happened.
The more detail you can give, the better. Take a deep breath and try x
I've never read/heard anything to do with 'wires', for instance.

Hi Earling, Well I had revision in Oct 2013 when I woke up my foot left weird so I told my doctor he said give yourself time to heal . 6 months later I had so much pain in my lower extremity knee down on left side . He sent me to Neurologist , and I have sciatic nerve damage so I kept going to physical therapy 3x week which seemed to be helping. I had alot bone lose when i had surgery so they had to put wires around my prostheic to hold together I was on 6 weeks weight bearing .
But now If i walk just around the grocery store I get horriable pain in my thigh I had xray done showing the wires are going loose . So doctor ordered ct scan to see if i have any bone regrowing . I have had Hip Displasia from birth I have been dealing with this for along time
Hi edarling , If you look up loose wires after revision on google they show pictures , I dont know medical terms I just know something not right I shoudnt have this much pain after revision hip surgery. Has this happened to you ?? wires are going into your pelvis you must be in horriable pain ?? How many hip surgerys have you had ??
Oh. I see. That makes sense now.
Well, I can empathise with you completely, since I had sciatic nerve damage during 1st THR and it left me with exactly the same symptoms, including foot drop, numbness, hypersensitivity, muscle cramps and festiculations (involuntary muscle spasms from knee to foot: weird, cos you can see them rippling).
All tests/interventions useless.
And incredible pain in the hip area.
As I said, I'm having. 3rd operation on it soon.
Perhaps it might help if you began a list of questions that you need to ask your new consultant. My new one is great.
It's a positive thing that they seem to be taking it seriously and beginning tests.
I'd say decide to become proactive in this. Make sure you ask the questions and keep doing so until you understand the situation as well as you can. Only then will you feel as if you have some measure of control and that will help dispel some of your fear.
Where in the world are you? 😃
Our posts crossed!
Next month I'll be having 3rd op on right. Went badly wrong from start.
No wires, but bone graft. My new consultant (who has recently done left) noticed that on the right, the device had become detached and is migrating up through my pelvis. Should have been obvious from 2012, but seems 1st consultant missed it, despite annual xrays!!!
No option but to have this 3rd op on it. Like you, v concerned.
Can only say heartfelt empathy. Try to keep strong. Do you have any support around you?
Hi Edarling, Yes im very blessed to have husband thats very understanding and supportive as well . Im in The US San Diego County Like I said my first thr Back in 1993 I never felt better no problems at all. I feel blessed to have found this site helps me to know im not alone, Its just I lost my job too .
But like you said I need to know exactly whats going on , I will ask alot of questions as well, I really do like the new doctor waiting to have ct scan done hopefully soon . If i have to have another revision this will be my 3rd as well Im very scared the recovery is so hard for me im 47 . I do appreciate your input and I wish you well please let me know how your doing after your surgery . Thanks again for your advice

Bless you!
Just to reciprocate, I'm 65 and in North East of England. I, too, had to retire on grounds of I'll health, so know what that feels like - a bereavement.
I have lived alone for over 20 years now: daughters/grandchildren live miles away in South.
Make good use of your lovely husband!
Please do keep posting, and, if you want, feel free to private message me via this site. Think you just click on my name.
Will be thinking of you.
x
Jackie,
Thanks for explaining things to us. I also live in the U.S.(NC). It's good to know your first THR lasted so long. I'm only 5 mo post op but it's always in the back of my mind how something can go wrong after following these posts. I wish you lots of luck with your new doctor.
Kathee
Hi Kathee, If your doing fine at 5 months you are going to be just fine like i said, My first one lasted me 21 years Im so glad your doing good . Thank you so much this site has helped me so much good luck
Jackie
Hi edarling, I will be thinking of you as well take care
And me. Take much care x
That is awful! !! You have a loose cap moving around your pelvis and you have to wait 2 months to fix it????? I think I'd freak. I do not like loose hardware in my body.
I pray that you remain okay and can wait ok . Hope so much all goes well.
Lee: Nicely put!
Think I'm past the freak-out stage with this stuff: there seems to have been so much of it. Indeed, I'm not actually 'waiting two months…': when I had my left THR in October, I developed a blood clot'. Have had to be on warfarin for 6 months, so they haven't been able to fix the 'hardware problem' earlier than May.
Thanks for the kind thoughts (and a good laugh!).
Elaine
Maybe he thinks you look ill, maybe he thinks you are still anaemic after your operation or you are on medicaton which could cause trouble.
Evidently revision hip surgery is much more complicated and your bone health is really important
A Ct scan gives a 3D image so it is much more thorough than an xray
Sory to hear you are having problems- hope it gets sorted
Regards
Julia
Hi Julia, I have had blood work done im not anaemic ! He did xray which showes loosening of wires . Some times when i walk I get sharp pains so now Im using the cane again , Waiting to get CT scan then back to my new surgeon . I had alot bone lose with my hip revision BAck in Oct 2013 . No more physical therapy right now either
Thanks
Jackie
