15 wks po tkr back at work and so painful

Hi all iv just done 3 shifts at work last wk but only for 4 hours as im doing phased return! I managed ok but my leg hurt a lot when i got home so iced and elevated! I took it easy for the rest of the day! Today ive tried to walk about more and my leg is so painful and swollen! My foot has swelled massive and im struggling to walk. My walking isnt brilliant and what i want to ask is this normal? I know im doing more but as time has gone by i was hoping to improve a bit more! Mrs frustrated and impatient! Am i being impatient please tell me!

HI~

My surgery is 8 1/2 weeks ago and it is still painful.  I have not been able to return to work as normal.  Swelling, to me, is a sign that you've done too much.  Calling the dr is an idea also.  From what I've been reading and researching, 15 wks is still early in ther recovery period.  My physical therapist said it could take up to 6 months to feel the full recovery.  I am very impatient and no one in my house wants to hear about it anymore...lol.

Take care of yourself.  If you need to ice it and take it easy, then you should.

I hope you feel better over the weekend.  You can always check in with the dr to be sure.

Hi Debbie, I am 11 weeks but not back to work yet. I a due back in a couple of weeks.

However I find I am not able to walk very far yet either. I can walk 3/4 mile but it is not a fast walk it takes me a while and i find i can not build on it. If I try to go further my thigh and knee are agony.

I too am trying to do a bit more daily as have to get back to normal but I did not expect it to be so hard. I thik we both need to be Mrs patient as we all heal differently but it is so hard debbie.

I too would love advice from other post 11 weeks,

Take care and be careful in work and rest plenty when you come home.

I've read each reply in this discussion. I, too, am facing return to work. Right now I am just shy of 11 weeks, and have MUA scheduled in 2 days.

Recovery is much more painful than I imagined, and while I thought I was tough, I find this intolerable at times. I get teary when I am out doing a bit of shopping or simmply walking and the pain begins to overtake my resolve.

The prospect of working is quite daunting at times, though I do like my job. I still need to ice and elevate my left leg frequently. Will see what transpires.
