Well it's been 16 1/2 weeks on 150 mg and I'm still not myself. Bad intrusive thoughts, anxiety, very sad, etc. I have had in all about 10 really good days last month, they come and then they go. My question is, will the anti depressant work fully if I also have a physical illness that also carries the symptom of anxiety and depression? Anyone experiencing very stubborn anxiety, OCD and depression like this while on this med? Waiting to get my thyroid removed and praying that helps.
Sounds like you need to switch to a different antidepressant! Also maybe you need to increase the dosage! Speak to your doctor about this! What is the physical illness you speak of?
I have Graves' disease, an autoimmune thyroid disease and as I said, anxiety is one of the symptoms.
I think you need to switch to something else. Make appt an explain all yoyr symptoms. It sounds like it isnt helping. Iv tried 4 now in last 2 yrs. Theres one out there for me. Im hoping. Dont give up. Hope your on med for thyroid prob?
Hi Vanessa,
Absolutely thyroid issues can make you feel like you are on a teeter totter.
The thyroid is coming out. So be kind to your self, be kind to others.
Bet you are not sleepng. Lack of sleep is making everything else worse.
You may be melatonin deficient. You do not need a script. Take no more than 3 mg of Melatonin two hours before bedtime. Make your bedroom very dark and cool the temperature. It is ok to use blankets. Might take a couple of days.
Please stay in touch.
kind regards
judith
Yes I take meds for my thyroid but I'm rarely in range with blood work and when I'm in range, I still have all the graves symptoms and that's why I've opted to get my thyroid out. I'm waiting until after my surgery to see how big of an impact my thyroid is having on my anxiety before I change meds or up the dose, as suggested by my family doctor and psychiatrist.
Hi Judith, a night with 6 hours of sleep or more would be the best thing I could receive right now. I have trouble getting to sleep and staying asleep. In all, I'm estimating that I get no more than 5 hours a night. I did try melatonin but had no luck with it. I use a fan every night and my room is dark, I have blackout curtains. I nap every afternoon for a couple of hours and sometimes I do feel guilty about that because I work from home and my work is suffering as a result. I will wait and see after my thyroid is gone and go from there. Thanks for the suggestions!
it sounds like you have given sertraline plenty of time and not had enough sucess to warrant wasting any more time with it
if you are having trouble sleeping, switch to either mirtazapine, or amitriptyline. both of these meds can be taken before bed and for many people with sleep issues these are the 2 popular antidepressant meds to try, for combatting their depression, anxiety, and sleep issues.
how long did you try the melatonin?
