17 days post op - Sleepless nights, restless leg and foot discomfort!

I have been off the "stronger" pain meds for about a week now and since cutting back I am not sleeping as well as I was.  I am not feeling worried or anxious about knocking my foot whilst I sleep, I have a bed cradle (best £19 I've ever spent!) and a nice soft pillow to prop my foot on but in this past week a few new things are happening.  I am getting a touch of restless leg syndrome (it is something I suffer with and usually can shake my foot or walk on a cold floor to ease it, I cannot do either at the moment!) and also my foot feels tighter and is tingling more.  I am keeping it elevated as I am supposed to, I am non weight bearing for another 11 days (and counting!) and use a wheelchair or frame when I need to move around. I am wondering if I was sleeping through this when I was taking stronger meds or if it is something new or part of the process!?!

Everyone experience is different. I was on pills 3 days and sleep much better.

i hope, you also put ice, it's suppose to help. For first week I had ice every hour.

I hope, you feel better. Every day you will see progress, elevate always than sitting and put ice!

I like the idea of a bed cradle but I don't know what it is? My foot gets cold because it can't stand the weight of the blankets on it so I have it outside of the blanket and that keeps me awake a lot. I've been taking sleeping pills to help me sleep the last couple of days as I have tried to taper off the pain meds. My biggest dilemma of the last few days is my foot wants to stretch and it hurts to apply the pressure of a good strong stretch. Are you dealing with that?

Hi Vanessa

The bed cradle is brilliant and we don't get at all cold and hubby still has the duvet over him as well.  Would highly recommend this item to anyone having any kind of foot or leg surgery.

I am having problems along the lines of wanting to stretch out my foot, mentioned it at my two week check up and they said as long as I am not trying to move my big or second toe to generally stretch the foot should be ok, just be careful
