I am 19 years old and have had IBS for around 5 years. Orignally my symptoms were mainly nausea and constipation - more so the nausea. I felt sick constantly and was completely reliant on anti-nausea meds. As I grew older, the nausea settled and I was able to come off the meds. However, I found that the constipation got much worse to the point that I was only going to the loo once a week. I have tried fibrogel for this but that did not seem to make much of a difference.
In the last year, it appears that my IBS has really stepped up a whole new level. I have been for several blood tests and also an ultrasound on my entire stomach area which all came back clear. I have no recognisable allergies nor health issues and thus the increase in symptoms is somewhat of a mystery. The only thing that was discovered was that I have excess gas in my stomach which obviously contributes to the symptoms.
At the moment my symptoms are:
nausea
constipation
bloating
loss of appetite
headaches
trapped wind
It is really beginning to get me down and affect not only my physical but my mental health also - some days I do not want to get out of bed and quick frankly, I would rather die than have to live with this my entire life.
I just wanted to know if anyone who has similar symptoms has any tips or tricks for what helps them. At the moment the only trick I have is sucking on mints but that doesnt always work.
I have similar symptoms. I've had it for 2 years now and I feel like I wanna die too! Lol. I think just eating the right things and relaxing helps a lot. I realise when I get nauseous I start to freak out and then I just have to calm myself down or it'll make the condition worse. Also, start trying an IBS diet. No lactose or gluten. Simple foods do the trick. Start to eat more fiber also like beans or greens. Just hang in there I knows it's tough. Glad to see people have the same issue so I won't have to be alone.
Try prune juice and dried prunes for your constipation and have ur tried Beano it has helped me enormously with the gases and has because of that reduce my adominal pain
Iv also had IBS for years too, when I was about 17 it got really bad with constipation, I went 2 weeks without going.I found dulcolax tablets helped me a bit but I did have to take quite a few! I'm now 24 and it's a bit better than it was, I go through stages of having it worse than other times so hopefully you will get a break from it at some point
Avoid gassy vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and broccoli. Keep a food diary to check for intolerances and you could try Movicol for constipation for short term use or oranges, green grapes, and prune juice.
Have you tried a perscription medication? Like Colperin? Colperin is a natural peppermint based tablet which has been known to work very well with Constipation IBS symptoms. The cramps and pain would be kept under control and it helps to relieve trapped wind. It doesnt work as well on IBS D but lots of people reccommend it.
Also a huge number of people say that Magnesium Citrate works on constipation. You can take a dosage that suits you. Some people say that after starting this treatment they dont need anything else. May be give this a try.
Try not to let it get you down. If you google what causes constipation Anxiety, Depression are both on the list. So feeling low wont help. Try to be positive.
