Just for the record it is amazing how time changes everything, I am reading a book from 1992 written by a doctor, at that time 160/95 was classed a perfectly fine blood pressure reading so theres some food for thought....
peace of mind at last for us all yeah...
I've wondered often ,as to why there are so many now on BP meds ,and not just one either .Food for thought ,if your an anxious person / white coat syndrome your BP can go up 10 to 15 points from having that alone in a Dr surgery .Who wrote this ? Not so very long ago either . Im sure BP med has increased my tinnitus loudness ,where as before going onto a BP med I was doing fine with tinnitus ,coping put it that way .Now it's all hell gone loose daily with it . Wonder reading this whose tinnitus has reacted since going on a BP med ?
Gotta keep in mind, lots of pharmas influence standards and lots of good organizations do too. So important to stay informed.
That sort of fits: when they diagnosed me in 2013 that was more or less exactly my reading at the time, 163/96. I had an NHS health check and I always suspected it was a grubby money making exercise for the practice .
A year later I was able to get my mednotes online and noticed that one of the very few BP readings on the notes was in 2000 where it was recorded at 162/93 - nobody had said, much less done, anything about that! Yet by 2013 it was considered an issue and they couldn't put me on meds fast enough. Not knowing much about the issue back then they managed to scare me enough to comply. Wanted to know family history etc etc and insisted it must be inherited. They jumped to attention when I mentioned that my father had died when I was a baby - but they fell rather flat when I said that actually there was a war on then and he had been killed! So no siblings for me yet they still tried to push the inherited genes factor. All the rest that could be included had lived to a good age including Mum who smoked until she could no longer peel the band off the cigarettes and gave up on life!
fish oil the life saver
Yes agree ,also Beetroot juice and Celery ,beetroot juice organic from Asda ,I look on it as a BP med daily .i hardly have any fat in my diet either ,also sugars and dairy ,think what our diets consists of goes a long way in helping BP .like my husband says you can be skinny ,but still have high BP and high colesterol without knowing it . I was told your blood group affects what ones BP will be ,didn't know that .
ok Marlene you not on bp meds then? my blood group positive B
Jane that is very interesting indeed
ummm really makes you wonder does,nt it I know one thing these
days you have to go with your own gut feelings....
What is it called and who is it by?
Fish oil the life saver Dr Caroline shreeve 1992
too true Helen! What is the book btw? would be interesting to see.
Helen Im on 50mgs Losartan ,first one was Ramapril gave me a tickly cough ,so stopped that ,onto Losartan ,but tend to get headaches on this one ,I've only been on any BP meds in past 3 yrs ,so only second one I've been on .Im with Jane and her post ,I was told by a surgery admin ,when we go for flu jab ,the surgery gets £10 every patient who gets BP done prior to flu jab .Go figure .
Thank you.
When we went they were also offering memory tests.
Not heard that one ,will keep eye out for that and ask about if anyone's come across a that ,devious if done for money ,last flu jab I declined BP being done on what I was told ,one thing I am in favor for is if you make an appointment and don't attend without a phone call to cancel that app you pay £10 ,as I think another who needs to get into see a Dr could have taken that app that wasent cancelled .Thats fair ,make patients aware of others ,not just themselves call that selfish at the very least .
Ha ha - Fish oil - I thought you were referring to omega 3 capsules !!
Marlene - My husband never suffered from tinnitus until he was prescribed medicien for heart failure, one of them being BP medication.
Nothing to be done for tinnitus we were told, he developed it within 2 days of being given medication.
3 years later he had an episode of bad reflux, and Dr prescribed NEXIUM, hes taking this medicine, and at about day 3 he said, the singing cicadas have gone, I looked at him thunderstruck, 2 years further on, as long as he continues with NEXIUM, he has no singing. Very happy if not well husband, coping with heart failure is bad enough without adding to the distress. I reported this unexpected side effect, for some Nexium causes tinnitus, to the chemist, and he told me he had written a report for their chemist chain internal magazine. Some months later we visited the hospital for our six monthly follow ups, by the cardiologist, and one of the first questions he asks us has your GP changed your medication, YES, I answered, GP has added Nexium for reflux. At that point the cardio specialist says, we have been trying it in the heart ward, and patients have been saying it has been helping them, I read about it in a chemists magazine. I looked up, and thought don't say anything, there can't be a link, but I wondered afterwards if there was, I am not going to question our cardio specialist, he's a little bit fierce, but very nice.
Fish Oil, I take it for arthiritis, 6000mg a day, a side effect, and they do warn you on the side of the bottle, CAN EFFECT BLOOD PRESSURE. and not upwards.
Apparently you should be working with your GP if you are taking Fish Oil at the levels I am taking it at, but not all GP's approve of Fish Oil to this day.
In my cse it was the first thing a rheumotogist said to me, do you know what fish oil is, you are to start taking it at 6 capsules a day.
Rheumo did mention, to me, see your dry skin, especailly on legs, I call it lizard skin, the fish oil will help, bonus and she gently touches my micro lines around my eyes, helps them too.
That was an interesting read Lyn,will look into this ,I get reflux ,think that's Losartan .There is no cure for tinnitus I have the hissing one ,don't get happy days at all ,non stop to having it ,mine was caused through Paracetamol ,I had an illness at the time virus ,never have believed a paracetamol of all things would bring this grief . To late now it's happened .Hope your husband continues to have good days ,he's sure been through an awful lot . Thanks again for your post its been helpful . Regards
