Hi
This question has probably been asked many times before. Today I have been prescribed this for nerve damage and anxiety problem. I have had the worse 5 hours since. Felt like a total zombie and could barely walk in a straight line. I can see that this would appear normal for some people but has anyone had trouble breathing? This isn't uncommon for me as I seem to associate medication with these symptoms as part of the anxiety but pretty scary while it passes. My dose this morning was only 50 and I'm supposed to be taking the next before bed. Anyone any advice as I really wasn't expecting to feel like this and really need a good nights sleep.
Hi zena,
I've been on Pregabalin for about 16 months. Originally to treat fibromyaligia, but recently raised the dosage to treat anxiety, which has helped a lot. Apart from a mild headache at the very beginning which lasted 2 or 3 days, I've had nothing but positive results.
However, we all tolerate drugs differently. Some years ago I was put on Statin's. I only took one tablet and found similar symptoms to what you describe. The breathlessness was quite pronounced; I could still take deep breaths but was still struggling for air! It turned out I'm allergic to statin's. The breathlessness was anaphalactic shock. At first I wasn't believed until I became annoyed. No more statin's for me.
I'm only responding because I had similar symptoms with another unrelated drug.
Pregabalin is well known to be a well tolerated drug with vertually no side effects and no problems with addiction.
If your symptoms persist see your GP or A&E.
My best wishes
Alex
Thanks Alex. I've been put on it for suspected nerve damage!!
No one seems to take me seriously but codeine based things do the same to me. Very slow laboured breathing or then a jolt like my heart kick starting. Very scary and easy to pass as anxiety but doesn't help when you get passed from GPS to consultants etc. I won't lie it makes me anxious to keep going over my symptoms. Today has been awful and really don't think I can continue on them. My nose felt blocked and my tongue felt too fat! Does this sound familiar or am I actually losing the plot!
Hi again zena,
It does sound like you may have intolerance to some drugs; do you have a history of this? There's no reason why your GP etc should not be sympathetic to this if you have. If you aren't happy then you have a right to express that. Do you have other allergies?
Pregabalin was originally developed to treat epilepsy; now they know it has other applications. My own GP insisted there was no treatment for Fybromyaligia (a form of nerve damage) until I asked to see a rheumatologist who came to the rescue with Pregabalin! As far as I know this is the only drug known to offer some relief. So for me it works and helps a lot with the constant pain I I used to have.
Just because something doesn't work for you it doesn't mean you are loosing the plot.
It's a shame, because everything I've read about Pregabalin suggests it is the up to date medication for your condition.
So your GP isn't wrong to prescribe it. He's only human and could be frustrated if there are only a few options open to him/her.
Like a lot of things in life, if the regular solution to a problem doesn't work then sadly we have to put up with what we've got.
That doesn't mean there isn't a treatment, lets face it your GP should know more than I do!
If you're not happy, then go back. No need to feel guilty about that.
Best wishes,
Alex
