2 and a half weeks without.

So almost 2 years ago I was moved from citalopram to mirtazipine. And I very slowly started coming of the cit but had real problems stopping altogether…I’d have awful withdrawal symptoms and not make it through a week without.

I was eventually put on the drops for cit. And I eventually got to the point where I was just taking a single drop once every four days. Basically I’d have a drop when I felt withdrawal symptoms start to kick in.

At this point I’d largely given up on coming off citalopram and was just trying to take as little as possible. But eventually I’d got to the fourth day and wasn’t feeling anything, so just carried on not taking it. From around day 5 to day 9 I had some pretty unpleasant symptoms, but I got through it! And thought great, I’ve done it, free at last. But from around the 2 week mark until now I’ve had some bad secondary symptoms. Headaches, pain in the forehead and around the eyes, difficulty concentrating and brain fog type stuff.

Then I started reading this forum this morning and loads of people saying how bad it gets and now my anxiety has come back! As a direct result of having read all that, because I basically thought I was already through the worst of it. So I’m now just looking for some advice and encouragement!! Is there anything that helps these symptoms?

Hi Oliver,
I’m sorry you are going through this. I’ve read to come off the drug very slow over a period of possibly 1 year depending on what dosage you were on. Those symptoms you are having are from withdrawals.
I had a horrendus time adjusting to the cit. I’m on 10mg for 19 months.
I would cut caffeine and alcohol out. Exercise helps alot.
Good luck,

Will

Mirtazipine can have a nasty interaction with any SSRI… especially if taken together… you can get too much seratonin… I’d ask your pharmacist and your Doc…
