Dear Amanda
Good to hear that it all went well for you. During your recovery try to keep in mind to do whatever is necessary to walk with a good balanced gait from the very start.
Cheers
Richard

Hi Ann. I'm same as you, just over 3 weeks and really want to get on bus to get nails done and go to bank. have put it off incase bus jogs me about too much. Also on one crutch.
How did you find your journey?x
9 days post op-- can TOTALLY relate!
My knee is killing me tho.
I actually think I didn't feel the "real" pain until almost 4 days post... PT is journey. Be patient with yourself.
dear mandy,
wow .... you stayed one night in hospital only ? are you in a rehab facility or home home ?
did you get the anterior aproach to hip replacement surgery ?
I am very impressed and also very pleased for you that the surgery went well -
either way, 2 days post-op is very early in recovery from this major surgery -
good tips and advice are already given -
take your pain medication as prescribed to stay ahead of the pain - do your ankle rotations and foot pumps while in bed -
are you on any blood thinners?
you mention in a previous post that you live alone ... anyone checking in on you, though?
you have done it, girl --- now be gentle with your self and listen to your body ...
please keep coming here anytime you feel like it okay ... just to chat, or maybe vent or anything ...
big warm hug
renee
Hi Carol I started out in a taxi the first outing but felt uncomfortable so on the way back used a bus
. found if I stood up braced myself by the seat for the wheelchair s I
was fine used two crutches the first time out. Have to say the bus drivers where so helpful. Good luck
18 days post op and feeling better everyday...one day at a time...
Yes the kneee swelling is causing the most pain at mo ..think i am still shell shocked too only having it 48 hours ago lol
i am at home have someone staying with me for a couple of days ...
my cut is acrosss my bottom so is that the posterior aproach ?
yes on blood thinners no socks , so got away wih that one ..nit liking the selling of knees ..had clips not stitches ..
I have someone staying for a couple of days , then i will want my space i think '''
Thanks Renee ..feel like had the op sent hoem and not much advice , nothing about future Physio which is concerning ..and have to go to nrse myself to get the clips out ...
Dear Mandy
The stockings as I expect you know are a safety measure to guard against blood clots whilst you are not as mobile as you would normally be. I was happy to wear them until I was walking well. They also act tk reduce swelling so you may find that they will help the knee swelling issue.
Cheers Richard
Goodness Mandy -
I don't want to alarmyou or anything, however (here it comes) that does not sound okay -
I think you had the posterior approach done - hospital stay is usually 3 nights - I stayed 4 nights because I live alone - you will get physical therapy in the hospital, usually same day of surgery or the following day - you will be taught how to get out and in to bed, take your first steps (usually with walker or crutches) and shown some exercises -
In my case, surgeon came to check on me, another xray was taken to make sure hardware was placed correctly - blood test and blood pressure checked and they made sure I had a bowel movement before I was discharged ...
Did you get anything like this?
My surgeon didn't give me those stockings - Apparently it is not done routinely anymore here in Holland - I had to self-inject Fragmin blood thinners for 6 weeks though -
I am happy that someone is staying with you -
are you sleeping well ?
let us know how you are getting on, okay
angel blessings
Hi yes i had blood tests and x rays done ..
struggling to sleep and dont have an appetite , even though i am now having to take insulin
early night tonight then i hope to have some appetitite in the morning x
Thats very good advice...I was instructed by PT right from the beginning to stand up tall and stretch the leg out, walk heel to toe with good balance. I am just passed 3 weeks post op and surprised myself, I put down the cane and discovered that if I just take a much longer stride with my operated leg i can walk without a limp and feels like im floating acrossed the floor....so excited to be walking without pain, no limp and like I did when I was younger!! I think my body was just used to taking small strides with the limp I forgot how to really walk , feeling so fortunate
Hi Mandy
Good for you. I wish you a great recovery.
I was great while on meds...bit here I am 9 months later eith a terrible limp, heavy leg and constant pressure from the inside out
All the way from hip to knee. Done all the exercises, aqua therapy, achieved average BMI AND my retired surgeon says I'm a puzzle..good luck! My most recent and best physio therapist is out of ideas!
I'm a young 63 just launching a new business, married 35 years with 5 grandbabies under 4! Disappointed and frustrated! Any ideas you get..I'm open!
Sorry to hear about the pain. I would suggest that you need to have the support of walking poles or crutches and continue with the pain meds to ensure that you are walking in a balanced wag with a good gait. How are your thigh and leg muscles doing after the surgery?
If the above does not provide an improvement in ten or so days then I suspect that your back is out of true and that is a job for a good chiropractor and not a McTimoney one please.
Good luck and please report back on how you are getting on.
Cheers Richard
Thanks Richard..
I do have a great chiropractor..
I believe it's in the muscle or none belie the implant that has not been xrsyed..
It feels like a huge pool niidke has been jammed under the skin.
Like swollen and rigid in the front thigh.
Hmmm?
