2 half weeks post op

I have not had much pain from the actual wound, but having a cramp like pain from my groin on laying flat or getting up from my chair, it really takes my breath away. Also a feeling of movement when I move my leg to the side in bed, a very strange sensation.

Shirley, Are you up and walking around? Are you doing any excersises to help your muscles?  I used moist heat between my thighs for the first weeks to help "calm" the muscles down.  Perhaps during surgery they just pulled you a bit more in thoses areas.  Are you on blood thinners?  I would call the doctor and describe pain to him just to be sure.....  Ginny USA

That will take some time and is normal what you are feeling. Continue with the exercises your physio gave you to do at least three days per week. Nice and easy on the exercises don't over do it.

Hello Ginny, yes I am walking no,problem sometimes I ca walk to my kitchen without crutches, but seem to limp now which I didn't before?

I do my leg lifts two times a day, forward, back and side.

As I said the groin pain has been from day two of my op, which was the 2nd of February 15.

I spoke to my doctor he prescribed Ibuprofen the nurse advised me not to takes them, and I must admit they did not really help.

Kind regards Shirley UK

Hi Shirley are you walking too much without crutches ? I was told to use 2 for 6 weeks .

Hope not, I have only done it a few times and the kitchen is only a few steps from the lounge. I will take your advice and stop doing that.

Thanks Mary

I have walked with 1 crutch a few times and tried without but do feel more pain afterwards . We are all different .

sometimes with hip replacements, the legth of your leg will be slightly different.  did your surgeon discuss this with you before hand?  My leg was almost an inch shorter and now i am perfect.  also, sometimes, you just need time for the hip to settle and the limp will go away.  you didnt answer if you were on blood thinners.  do you get a shot or taking a tablet?  if you are, never take ibuprofen.  it will thin your blood more.  if you are not on blood thinners, you should be to help prevent clotting.

I would carry on using one crutch in the house and both when you go outside for at least another couple of weeks.  Don't stop using at least one crutch if you limp without them, this will only make the pain and the angle of your leg worse.  Be gentle with the exercises and try not to strain anything, they are meant to help you feel better not worse!

I went back to my walking stick indoors after 14 days, but am now getting an ache I did,nt have before.  So, I am back on one crutch and it's settled down.  I don,t know why I think it's necessary for me to show off and be the quickest person ever to walk unaided!  Typical nurse!   Your muscles and nerves are a bit battered and bruised and will take time to recover.  Your post op XRay must have been OK, but I would still mention it to your doctor.  Best wishes, Sue

This will get better with time.for me getting up an sitting down was very painful.once up the pain was much less when walking
