I had open surgery to replace mesh that had failed…2 months on I still have swelling and numbness due to nerves knitting back together….I feel fine in myself, back to swimming 40 lengths of the pool nearly every day..BUT I just wondered how long the swelling takes to go down completely…The area feels hard and a bit tender….anyone else had this….
Did they remove mesh and put new mesh in? If so this can take some time to heal. You should feel fortunate that you are back to swimming and doing well if you indeed had your mesh removed as many don’t. If you had your original mesh removed
It can take 6 months to a year for complete healing to take place .
I would take it easy and not overdo it excecise wise-give the area a chance to fully heal.
Yes they did remove the old mesh which had split and put new mesh earn….From previous hernia ops I learnt that the sooner you get walking about the better…The swimming is the gentlest exercise I can do and it is all at a leisurely pace….I certainly won't be doing any weights for 6 months or so…Just grateful that I,ve now retired…..They certainly don't tell you how long these things take to heal when you are at the hospital…Indeed I have heard folks say it can take up to 12 months…I,m more concerned about the healing ridge that is taking time to go down….thanks for the reply…much appreciated
