2 to 3 months waiting time

Hi all,

Just wondering can you tell me how long yo uall waited for your operation. I was told on the 20 Feb 2016 my op would be 2 to 3 months. How much notice do you get for the offical date?? Can't find much info on it. I haven't had my pre op yet, but Ive had my MRSA ones done.

Thanks

Tracy

It all depends on your hospital and what there waiting list is like. You will know when you get pre-op that your op will follow quite quick. But be prepared for getting a date then it being cancelled at the last minute that has happened to loads of us. For me twice l was called night before 1st thr to cancel it. Waited another 2 weeks and it almost happened again. Thats just what happens x

i was waiting from june till feb to have mine and they give you about 2 weeks notice

I was put on waiting list on 9th of November. My ooeration was meant to be 29th of Feb but iv been cancelled so now im still waiting x

I saw my consultant in December 2015 and had my op on 3rd March.  I had a week to get everything ready as I got in on a cancellation.   They rang me on the Wednesday the week before, pre-op the following day and saw o/t the next day.  I panicked but in retrospect it gavce me less time to worry.  Two weeks post-op now.

Ar lors23 comments - it all depends on your hospital. I had pre op clinic 10th March, and Hip clinic today. I am 'pencilled in' for THR 3rd May.

Thanks for your replies so far- I'm going into Lancaster hospital has anyone has it done there?

Hi,

which hospital was that please?

thanks

Tracy

A weeks notice! OMG thats not very long. Thanks.

I was lucky then. I went to RNOH Stanmore. Saw the consultant 9th December. Had CT scan mid Jan and the day after that they phoned me to discuss a date. I went in on 4th March as arranged and all went like clockwork. Got the impression I could have had it earlier but I had a holiday if Feb that I'd had booked before I was told I would need surgery. For my job to cover me was difficult so to have had too short notice would have been a problem, but as it was it was perfect. Good luck!

I saw the consultant Dec 8th and had my operation on 17th February, so not long at all.

hi Tracy,

I am in Holland, so can't really help you here..

good luck

what are you hoping for? The sooner the better?

Big warm hug

I got told April last year i needed the operation, totally blew it away, went back in July with a change of heart said yes only not before September was going to be a godmother and didn't want to do it on crutches. So my doctor said he would put from October and got my appointment in August for November 13. And never looked back.

I saw the consultant on 8th Jan and had my op on 9th Feb. I asked how long the waiting list was and he said it should be within 18 weeks but If i ring his secrtary she should be able to give me an idea. I rang the day after and she gave me the sat there a nd then. Might be worth ringing the secretary. Within a couple 9f days I had all my appointments through for the pre op and physio sessions etc. I live in Stoke on trent and couldn't fault the care I received on the n.h.s. Hope you don't have to wait too long .

Thats amazing. Im furious with my hospital xx

Went to see consultant in April he told me i needed op, said no cant do it, went back in July after getting advice from this wonderful family, said yes but not before September as i was being godmother and didn't want to be on crutches, so  i got my letter in August for the 13th November. So i was lucky i guess

I'm in Australia - I believe my story is bad. Regularly saw GP from 2005, with severe pain, and moderate to severe OA.

Physio wrote GP nasty letter asking why I had even been referred to him when the hip were so bad and so clearly worn out on x-rays.

Letter sent to public hospital clinics by GP.

By Mar 2013 pain untollerable, asked to see Private Ortheopedic Surgeon, he examined me and said worn out, and you need surgery, $10,000.00 as you are now on benefit's govt will pay for prothetics and that saves you $25000.00, Impossible financially. Letter sent to Public hospital, upgraded to Category One, (cat One includes cancer patients). Aug 2013, saw GP's locum again, he looked at file, and said I had THR, I replied thats news to me. Locum immediatley rang hospital, and got me appt 10 days later, at that point surgeon wanted to admit me, no beds, on evidence of March 2013 MRI's booked for urgent surgery 16 Sep 2013, in wheelchair as couldn't walk, developed clot in opposite leg, 9 days before surgery. Finally surgery Oct 2013. 12 weeks later tore out cartledge in left hip, saw same surgeon Jun-Jul 2014, booked for non-urgent but needed THR Feb 2015, again unable to walk to bone on bone pain.

Hi Tracy,

I was listed for thr at the beginning of November 2015, had my pre-op tests 4 January 2016, was told my op would be end of January, but didn't hear anything, have now got a date of 30 March, but with a different consultant, as the waiting list under my original consultant so long. I'm having my operation in Kendal. I got notification 3 weeks ago of the new date. Best wishes, Jude.

I'm in Cornwall.

After a long road to diagnosis I had a six week wait for the first op and then 6 months (scheduled, as that is the gap my surgeon works with) for the second.

It is a frustrating time because you can't plan anything, the pain was driving me mad and I just wanted to get on with it.

I had a date for my second hip and was really excited but my poor surgeon had to return to SA for a family bereavement so I was put off for a month.

I would suggest emailing your surgeons secretary and requesting a cancellation especially if all your prep tests etc are complete

Hi Jude,

Mr Maguire who is doing my op works at both the Kendal and lancaster hospitals. They only do first hips at Kendal, if you need it replaceing - which I do then it has to be done at Lancaster as special equipment is used as the operation takes longer etc. I have had a few meetings with Mr Maguire at Kendal hospital its a nice one. 3 weeks is what I would like still got some preparing to do like heighst of sofa and bed! Thanks for you info its really helpful - Whos your consultant? Good luck with your op.
