2 Weeks post Op Right THR (35 years old)

Hi All,

not posted for a while. I bit the bullet and went for the THR on my right hip got a date very quick and just went for it. After the procedure which went well the consultant said the damage in my hip was worse than he thought so that reassured me that I'd made the right choice.

Im now two weeks out a feeling good, I'm not any any pain killers (the first for 3 years) and im getting a full nights sleep also the first in 2-3 years.

I can walk without any aids albeit with a bit of a limp but that's improving. I use a stick going any distance but try not to around the house.

hopefully getting physio this week as other than e basic excersises I was taught in the hospital I'm not sure what to do.

the sorest bloody thing is the fragmin injection!!!!! I bloody hate needles!!!

will keep you posted with my progress and thanks for all the advice that helped me build up the courage to do this as it was quite a daunting prospect.

cheers

alasdair

I know...about the injections too hate them..but I dont feel them now, I am in for my second hip on thursday, cant wait to be pain free on friday...wow thak goodness for modern medicine, years ago I would be marooned and dead on the beach for sure... Ian.

So good to hear I'm 38 and in two minds I forward one date made out I was going on holiday I told them to put me back on the waiting list did you have the epidural injection or full sleep injection.

Good morning alasdair ...

That sounds absolutely fabulous ...did you have posterior or antherior surgery? No matter what, you are doing great -

Oh those fragmin injections !!! I had to do them for 6 weeks !!! yikes ... looking back it doesn't seem so bad after all .... you'll see ...

Keep doing what you are doing !!! enjoy your new found life ....

warm hug

Hi I too am 35 and 2 weeks post op. I had thr on my left using posterior surgery. I'm getting on really well, physio was difficult on Monday. I'm completely with you on the injections I hate them!

Steph

Wow Alastair. That all sounds good. I'm pretty much same as you. No pain, sleep well, no meds and no stick around the house. Just use one stick on my daily mile walk.

However I was lucky. Just need to take one blood thinner tablet a day. Mind you, I'd have taken injections over wearing those stockings.

My first physio session today. Onwards and upwards!

Sorry Alasdair!

Glad everything is going well, i'm 45 and nearly 4 weeks post op Posterior Left THR and like you my hip was in a very bad way, mashed was the words my surgeon used, my recovery is going well apart from my sleeping although i did sleep on my side (non operated) for the 1st time last night and it felt great, and like you i hate needes and cant bring myself to inject so the district nurse comes out to do my Clexane injections which i'm glad to say finish on Saturday. Had been doind a bit of walking 1 to 1.5 miles a day but cut right back due to being constantly tired and hope to step it back up when i get back into a better sleep pattern.

I had a spinal with sedation definitely the way to go. When you wake up you are lucid straight away. If your hip is stopping you living your life I would say go for it. Good luck mate I knownits a very daunting prospect.

Hi Karen,

Sounds like you are doing great. I still need the socks as well!!!!!! They are a real pain because do them myself so my wife has to do them.

I'm hoping to get some physio in the next week or so hopefully will get some more excersises to do.

Take care

Hi Steph,

Good to hear it's going well.

What excersises did the physio give you to do?

Cheers

Hi Renee,

I had posterior surgery. I have a scar as long as my lower arm round my bum!!! Tye surgeon had to make a big incision because of my muscle mass and the density of my bones. The op took 2.5 hours because of how hard it was to cut through the bones (which was reassuring). I was touch and go for a transfusion because of the blood loss due to the length of time I was in.

I know the injections are a minor inconvenience so I'll grin and bare it!!!

Take care

Hi Ian,

Good luck on Thursday.

You know what tonex

You know what to expect so hopefully that will help you through.

Take care

Shall squats ensuring knee cap is in line with second toe x10

Lying on unoperated side keeping bottom leg bent and trunk all in line lift operated leg with heel flexed x10 (this is the one I found difficult, my leg felt like a lead weight!)

Lying on back with knees bent lift bottom up x10

All these 3 times daily

Hi Steph I can't do that either I'm 8 weeks post op xx

You sound like you are doing great

by the sounds of things I am glad I was given blood thinning tablets!! No needles for me. As for those dammed stockings I ditched them after 2weeks more trouble than they were worth

hope you continue to do so well

all the best

Carol 😄 Xx

Hi Alasdair, I am 3 weeks post op and the righty hip never felt so good. I am 52 but am convinced that a good recovery is pushing to get back to fitness, following the rules (and don't we know when we don't) but doing more each day.

I am amazed how many of you say that you have to inject - erk! I am rivaroxaban tabs which do the same thing - easy.

I have a little stiffness in the new joint, and the scar get sore and itchy when I am tired but the worst pain comes from mid thigh which apparently is common in an un-cemented stem. I also get whizzing and fizzing which I assume is nerves healing. An amazing operation that has changed my life - bring on the lefty,
