I contracted genital herpes around 2 years ago. I had an absolutely horrific first outbreak, with blisters all over my penis and around my anus. I had a single canker on the glans of my penis. Since then I have possibly had one or two very mild recurrent outbreaks (I say "possibly" because the symptoms were so minor that I cannot be sure they were herpes related) but nothing that has come close to the nightmare of the initial outbreak. My problem is that throughout the two years since the the symptoms of the initial outbreak disappeared, I have had a red mark at the approximate location of where the single canker was. It doesn't hurt. It's not a bump. It's just a red blotch. It is more noticeable when my penis is flaccid. It can still be seen when I have an erection, but it is less prominent. I am very self conscious about it. Is it ever likely to go? Is there anything that I can do? (I had an STI test a couple of weeks ago and it came back all clear)
Not a nice thing to have experienced, in addition to what you seem to have as after effects. Hopefully you will get someone on here who has the same experience as you and can advise what to try.
Unfortunately, in the realms of genital skin disorders, often what works for one person may heighten symptoms in another. Therefore, I think the only people with the specialist knowledge on this would be a Urologist or a Dermatologist specialising in genital skin disorders.
You can either ask your Regular Doctor / GP to refer you to such a specialist, or if you live in our near one of the larger cities in the UK go to a Walk-In Sexual Health Center or a GUM Clinic at a General Hospital. You may need to be quite insistent that you are referred to one of the Specialists who deals with this - however, as this is impacting on mental well-being it would be best for a specialist to deal with this. And, this is how you need to put it across when you are asking for a referral.
