Hi Brightsyde,

First, I want to thank you for sharing your experience on the Globus and to all of you who have this Globus, I’m truly feel your pain and suffer. This Globus can be very devestating and have really impacted my life (it has been 18 months now). Last year was very stressful year for me and around June 2022, I started to feel tight in my throat after lunch. I thought I must ate the lunch too fast and think that it will go away. Long story short (don’t want to bore you), it never went away and only can get worst.

I went to ENT doctor many times and go through all the tests as you had. Those ENT doctors (tried two doctors) just following the protocols, not really listen to patient issue and they trying to kick you out so he can see next patient. No sympathy from them. I started with Acid Reflux for 2 months, didn’t work, multiple throat endoscopy, swallow barium, Xrays, neck CT and etc. Finally, the ENT doctor told me that I need neuromodulation therapy stating that I might have nerve damage. He want me to take Gabapentin.

After I had read your story here, I’m was excited and fighting with my ENT doctor to prescribe me this Cyclobenzaprine to try for few days, he refused at first saying I don’t have Cricopharyngeal Spasm and this medicine is outside of his normal prescribed medicines. Finally, after I have insisted, he prescribed me 5 days Cycobenzaprine 10mg (1 per day), very low dose. After few hours of taking this med, I felt little better on my throat (not as tight), on the 3rd day, I felt significant better, I don’t feel throat tightness anymore but when I swallow saliva, I still feel the tightness. I was so happy that now I have a solution to my Globus issue. At same time, I have developed bad side effect of having irregular heart rate and felt anxious from Cyclobenzaprine so I’m stop taking after 3rd day. I asked my ENT doctor to prescribe me an alternative Muscle Relaxant that has less side effects especially on the irregular heart rate. Now, he refused to prescribe this muscle relaxant completely and insisted that I need Gabapentin. I finally caved in and agreed to take Gabapentin (start with 300mg, 1 per day for 1 week and then increase to 2 per day and etc). After taking this Gabapentin for 1 day, I have noticed little ringing in my ear. So I was worries (I already have Globus issue and I don’t need another issue like Tinnitus). I did some research and found many people that took Gabapentin have caused Tinnitus.

I’m going to stop Gabapentin (also this med will take 2 weeks or longer to be effective if at all) and even if this work, I don’t want continue taking this med for rest my life as it have many bad side effects.

I’m going to ask my primary doctor to see if he willing to prescribe me this muscle relaxant. This is crazy that I have to go through this and found very little help from the doctor.

Does anyone know what is the least side effects mucsle relaxant, an alternative to Cyclobenzaprine ? Anyone taking Gabapentin, any side effect like Tinnitus and does it help the Globus. Thank you.

Any help on the Cyclobenzaprine for you? any side effect? I took it and really helped my globus. After 3rd days of taking, I felt significant improvement on my Globus but I have developed irregular heart rate and anxious as side effects. Trying to find other muscle relaxant, an alternative to Cyclobenzaprine. Thanks.

Any update!?!??!?! Glad I could help!

I took it for a few months , probably longer then I needed too because I was so paranoid it would come back. Its come back a few times since but its nothing like it was in the past, and the medicine is just as effective.

Im so glad this worked for you too!! Im happy I wrote this. I developed severe anxiety and random panic attack disorder because of the globus and lack of treatment. Did you find an alternative!?

I dont have to take the medicine regularly at all, its on a very as needed basis. In fact not much at all ever. The globus comes back randomly, and goes away just as fast with this medication. Even today!

Brightsyde, first of all THANK YOU !! I don’t have the words to thank you enough.
I was able to get a lot of improvement using the Cyclobenzaprine, however the improvements seemed to have stopped for me after about 4 weeks of taking between 5mg to 10mg per day.
If I remember correctly, yours took about 40 days for Globus Sensation to be completely gone. I understand each of us will be different, but can I ask how much of the Cyclobenzaprine you were taking each day?

Hello,

I hope you’re doing as well as possible despite the challenges you’ve been facing. Since the end of January, I’ve been dealing with a persistent globus sensation in my throat, and it hasn’t left me for a single day.

Before this started, I used to be such an outgoing and positive person. But this sensation has changed everything. It’s been debilitating, and I can’t help but feel frustrated and stuck because of it. The worst part is that it’s not something visible or easily understandable to others, which has led me to feel ashamed at times. I am 20 years old and want to get my life back on track.

Everyone keeps telling me it’s anxiety or trauma-related, but I never experienced anything like this before. The tightness in my throat often triggers nervousness and panic, making it even more challenging to cope with this situation.

I live in Europe, and unfortunately, the medication Cyclobenzaprine, which has been recommended by some, is not available here, only Flexeril. My doctor prescribed Lexapro, which I’ve been taking for seven weeks now. But, I haven’t noticed any improvement in the globus sensation.

I’m reaching out to you in the hope that maybe you’ve found a medication or treatment that has been helpful for you. I feel desperate to find a solution and get my life back on track. If you’ve come across anything that might ease this sensation, I would be incredibly grateful if you could share it with me.

I still have Globus since last June, still searching for cure. Tried to practice deep breathing and massage your throat (I have been using IcyHot cream) and that temporary ease the throat tightness. Hope that helped. Also Cough Drop candy helped too.

Omg I am going to ask my doctor about this medication. Thank you so much. This has killed me for 5 months! And only when a physio suggested it was partially being helped by my taking Lexapro did I realise it’s an anxiety thing!
Amazing. I will ask asap.

Brightsyde- THANK YOU so much for your post. I have just begun learning about Globus Sensation. I have felt symptoms for over 2 months now and I have been feeling scared and hopeless UNTIL I read your post. I, too, have had CT scans, an Ultra Sound, Endoscopy and LOADS of blood work!! Oh my! I have seen several doctors as well. My doctor also recommended Buspar. My symptoms started with a tingling sensation in my lower jaw and teeth. The next day I noticed the tightness in my throat. I also get headaches and earaches/pressure in my ears and sometimes ringing. It all comes and goes but the throat tightness stays the longest. I hope someday they find a cure for this and that more people are aware/educated about this horrible condition. I have been trying to convince myself that I am lucky that its not something worse, but I still don’t want this for the rest of my life (I am only 45).
Peace and Hope to all who experience symptoms of Globus!!

Donna

Yes, I would love to know the name of the medication, too!!!
