24 hr ph impedence test for acid reflux

Hi everyone

I've been suffering with acid reflux for 10 years roughly. I was diagnosed 3 years ago with a hiatus hernia via endoscopy. Was put on PPIs which worked for 18 months then stopped working. I've tried h2 blockers and now I'm finally on lanzoprazole which does the job but I don't want to stay on medication for life. Went to see a specialist which sent me to 24 hr ph impedence and motility test. It came back normal for acid reflux which is ridiculous as I am always in agony if I forget my medication, I went through 75 rennies in a week before I was on this medication. I have not been back to my consultant yet but fearing he's going to now say I don't need surgery. I couldn't eat very much during the 24 hr ph impedence as I was gagging so much. Has anyone had the same problem and what did your consultant say ?

Thanks you.

Ben

You take lansoprazole 30mg once or twice a day? Most doctors don't suggest surgery if you get relief from PPIs. Surgery should be the last resort. If it doesn't work it could make you feel worse.
