26 Weeks and still sore

Been back to work since first of May. Been to doc twice since returning and he always says everything fine and continue doing what you are doing and muscle will strengthen and pain will go.I drive a tractor trailer and work local. So I'm in out of truck all day long.I have problems when sitting or lying down When I get up its hard to get going and stay sore all the time.Is this normal.I'm getting very frustrated with this since I can't miss any work

i am 15 months first hip and 9 months for 2nd hip, and i still find it aches when i have over done it, like yourself have been back to the doctors they said the same it will take time for the muscles to strengthen, as my hubby said they have chopped off your legs and stuck back to gether again, lol

hope it starts improving for you x

If the pain is in the area of the operation then I would think something is not quite right. Is that your GP or the consultant who says you are getting on alright?

Contact your consultant's secretary and make sure they know what is going on.

Everybody heals at different rates but in my case I have been virtually pain free since 6 weeks after my second hip replacement, I have had both done 6 months apart.

I know my work is not physical like yours but I was back in less than 6 weeks from operation.

Chase it up, as it sounds like something is not quite right with the rate you healing.

Hi Kenneth,

Not sure what to tell you - I agree with Marilyn that you had major surgery where muscles and tendons were severed and repair is still taking place - There is a lot going on while tissue etc are still fragile -- Good that you had it checked out with your doctor - did you get clearance to go back to your job in May ?

I would not force or push through it too much , though ---

good luck and be careful out there ...

big warm hug

Hi Kenneth - I had my thr on Feb 19th, so are virtally at the same point. And I still get aches and pains related to the surgery - esp the stiffness and tightness after sitting for any length of time. No chance of avoiding that in your job is there?!

But it might be worth talking to a physiotherapist to see if there are any strategies you can use while driving to minimize this ... exercises while driving (perhaps isometrics) or ways to adjust your seat in the truck to help with this. For example - a good friend swears by the cover made of wooden beads which allow him to shift around for easily and another loves her obus form which gives lots of lumbar support. Short of that ... I am sure you are getting out o stretch whenever you can and ... doing your exercises routinely. My surgeon suggested that these would be a good lifetime habit as we are all 'couch potatoes' at heart and our connective tissues will always need stretching out.

Finally ... a good massage therapist helped me a lot pre surgery as I am allergic to anti-inflammatory so the swelling and pain were major challenges. I am scheduled to start again - to help with tightness that lingers from hip #1 and with the pain from my other hip (to be done in a month). I encourage you to see a physiotherapist to get advice, but also to consider a registered massage therapist.

Wishing you all the best and speedy recovery from these problems.

Thank for the response.Yes,I was released to return back to work. Was out for 11 weeks and returning had no issues till about 3 weeks back.Working 10-12 hours a day will definitely put a strain on things.Doctor says to continue what I'm doing and soreness will go away when muscles are built back.

I think for many of us, the pain does not stop entirely, and it must be hard with a job like yours.  I have a desk job, and find it difficult getting up after an hour or so of not moving.  The scar area is still sore at times, usually when trying to sleep on that side.  Yesterday I had problems on my old bicycle, the saddle was causing problems with the metalwork in my leg/pelvis.  Had to swap the man's seat over for a ladies padded type.
