28 days on Mirtazapine

and having withdrawals after trying to quit. I felt fine for the the first 4 or 5 days and then wham I started to feel anxiety and my body was shaking last night. I was 8 or 9 days into the discontinuation and I broke down and took the usual 15 mg dose. How in the hell am I going to get off this drug?

Hi Matt, sorry you feel that way. The answer is that you need to taper off much more slowly. It doesn't affect everyone that way but it did me. You need to make the smallest reduction you can each time. Wait until you feel better then reduce by a quarter of a tab if you can, stay on this for a week or until stable again, then cut down by half a tab etc until down to nothing. Reducing quickly certainly didn't work for me. I presume you stopped cos after 4 weeks you didn't think they were working. Good luck.

I was prescribed the med for insomnia and because I have improved I want to stop taking it. I was doing fine for about 5 days and the stuff hit the fan yesterday. I am distraught that such short term use causes such dependance. I guess I have to regroup and do a taper because what happened yesterday is intolerable not knowing how long it will go on for.

I'm sure the tapering will work, best of luck!

Hi Matt. I was on mirtazapine for 7 weeks. They tried to increase my dose from 15 mg and wanted me on 45 mg im sensitive to meds and tried to do it slowly. Didnt even manage to get to 30 mg and started to feel like I was going mad and almost fainting everyday. It has made me severely depressed! My gp decided against my psychiatrist and told me to come off it so I took 15 mg on the 6th week then 7.5 mg on the 7th week followed by 2 days where I took 3.75 mg and had to stop I was a mess. They tried me on 10 mg citalopram but had to stop that after 10 days too! I have had to take diazepam over the last 35 days 2 mg most days. It wasnt helping so decided to stop that too so took 1 mg for a week and stopped 3 days ago. I feel awful! Lack of sleep sure. isnt helping!

What kind of withdrawal symptoms are you experiencing?

I am currently back to 7.5 for 4 days and seem to be ok today. I plan to cut again when I stabalize. My symptoms were a total feeling of anxiety beyond belief almost to the point of panic. I hope to have a week or so of good days and then I will cut it again. At least I was able to sleep last night and my physical symptons seem to abate when I can get some rest.

Glad to hear youre doing better. Im 3 weeks off it now and still getting bad anxiety, agitation and panic. Im hoping its going to improve soon.....ive heard it can take 4 weeks to improve so im only a week away. Although when you feel like your losing your mind thats a long time! My gp doesnt think the diazepam will be a problem as it was such a tiny dose. Hope you manage to get off it with success :-)

I was prescribed the drug for insomnia. I felt a little shakey yesterday but not as bad as when I went ct. I plan to cut the 7.5 in half when I can string some good days in a row. Hoepfullly within a week.

I get withdrawals no matter what the cut! I have also felt weak and shaky.

Did you experience that horrible crawling feeling in your legs when you stopped them too?

Oh and the head zaps/ sensations?

I have this intense buzz feeling in my head when it heightens and it feels almost spacey like it is not me. I also have a loss of appetite but not to the point of throwing up. I can't believe these docs give you this stuff with a straight face and tell you how it is going to help you without telling you about this part.

I was going to ask about the derealisation. Im having that alot feeling like im not here. Issues with my memory too!
