28 yrs old and just found out i need a THR on my right hip

Being so young and being told for a whole year that im too young for a hip replacement...I finally got the memo that i have no other option...Now i have no idea what to expect..😩

You will do just fine, the first weeks are hard but everyday gets better. I am 62 and 8 weeks out my hip is so much better and it's worth every step. Have help the first week or so and get house ready. You can't bend over so put everything up so you can reach in your bedroom kitchen bathroom. I got boxer underwear cause regular ones will rub cut. Take pain Meds do exercises they give you and use ice for the pain it really helps. I have PT 3 times a week using a cane now but had walker for first 5 weeks . Good luck to you and hugs

Hi Brittany !

Thanks for replying. I'm looking forward to the day where i can say my hip feels so much better...i work as a mail carrier so walking on a fracture hip for many many months has totally taken its toll on this young 28 year old. Surgery is in three weeks..I'm relieved but anxious

Hi 😃

Hi brittni, You have been working hard! I have had two hip replacements within 9 months of each other and feel like a new woman. My second was 10 weeks ago, and I haven't looked back. Just take the advice of the other forum members and you will be fine.

Good luck and I wish you well.

Hi

Your pain will get worse if you don't have the OP whereas the pain from the OP will go away . Please be under no illusions tho it's a big op . I am three weeks in and the pain surprised me so be realistic .. And remember that the post surgery pain WILL pass eventually but read lots in this site to prepare yourself and get your pain medication sorted out . Good luck !!

Good luck it will  be worth it to be pain free, keep up with exercise , I didnt find I had any pain, just felt a little uncomfortable . I am 59 and walk an hour each day with my dogs , and have felt the walking gave me my strength back  .. Bio Oil rubbed into your scar once the clips have been taken out will help with the  healing...

Good luck, I wish I had had my op earlier , now I know the difference

Hi, bit uncomfy at first but a pain free hip is something to really look forward to!  Good, good luck!

I am 56, & I deliver the mail.  Its not a walking route but as you know, there is plenty of walking, bending, llifting etc..

I had my first THR at 53 and returned to work after 7 weeks (posterior approach), I was back to sports in 3-4 months.  I just had my second THR, 13 weeks agao, I have been back to work for almost 2 weeks ago & have been playing sports for almost 2 weeks now. I should have waited 12 weeks after the first THR.

There is plenty of good advice on here.

You will do fine !

Good Luck

Susan is exactly right.  I'm 72 and also 8 weeks post surgery.  The first time I stood up and realized that I had no pain It was just like a miracle, especially after years of increasing pain.  You'll sleep alot during the first week and every day after that you will notice that things are a little better.  Rest as much as possible during those early weeks.  Try to eat good meals although you won't have much of an appetite for a while.  And take your pain meds regularly.  The pain goes away, you feel more relaxed, and your body can heal more easily.  Don't be in a hurry to stop your pain meds.  THey are given to you to keep you comfortable and this will help your body heal.  You don't want any stress.  Soon you will be telling us that you're 8 weeks along and doing so much better than you were before the surgery.  Be sure to keep in touch my dear.  And ask any questions that you may have along the way.  Nothing happens that someone on this site hasn't experienced.  I learned that first hand.  This site was a blessing to me both before and after the surgery.

Hi brittni,  I'm getting my LTHR on November 17.  I am fairly new to this site and you will find everyone here so helpful.  They'll be with you every step of the way.  Keep in touch and you've come to the right place   Good luck Mary

You are nowhere near the youngest to go through this, we've had teenagers on this forum!

Sure I dont mind telling you guys more about my self. About a year ago got into a car accident which unfortunately fractured my hip. At first I tried rest and an injection to help with the pain..but as many of u guys might know that doesnt really work. I found out i have avascular necrosis in both of my hips caused by steroids and ironically the only reason why i was taking steroids was for one my asthma...and two i had a brain tumor removed last year so they gave me steroids to help with the swelling in my brain. So at 28 I lived a very fulfilling life..so im no stranger when it comes to big operations but i always tend to be all over the place weeks before surgery.

Isn't it weird how different we all are ? You say no pain and just a bit uncomfortable .. Your the second person u have heard say that . After the op it was not much pain but uncomfortable . I was in awful pain and it's lessening now .. Funny how our bodies deal with it !!

Hi brittni

At 28 as rocket says you are not that young compaired to a lot of people on this forum. Infacr you are average. I am 43 and had both hips replaced and 1 knee all this year at the start l though l was young but then l met my friend now on this forum who was 19 at the time of hers and since then l have met loads of peaople in there 20's and now l feel like one of the old ones. But it was worth it. I am back at work and was sitting next to a 25 year old who had a baby over 2 years ago and foubd out she had AN in both hips and has so far had 1 done and is back at work part time and gets other done in jsnuary. We spoke abour once you get over the initial first few weeks how quick you start to recover. You will be fine brittni and you will get through it like we all did and hopefully have a better life.

Love

You've been through so much, Brittni! My son is 30 & had RTHR 4 months ago and LTHR 8 months ago. Our advice: he had a horrible reaction to the short-acting oxycodone they gave him after the first surgery - waterfall sweats & rash & itching all over. If they give you painkillers you react negatively to, DEMAND something else. For the second surgery, he got Dilaudid, which was better. For the first, he had GA, and it took him months to shake off the fog from it. For the second, he had a spinal. Good part: his thinking was crystal clear afterwards. Bad: he was in pain, as it wore off quickly in recovery. Just ask for enough painkiller to get you out the door. Finally, if you can get in a hotel program, you may not need insurance approval for the surgery. You are not hospitalized (he recovered in a Hilton) but a nurse is on call.

Best of luck to you, Brittni!

Soos I was itching all over too .. Drive me mad and I had that painkiller too . In the end they had to give me an anti allergy tablet as I could not sleep for scratching and they said it was a common side effect X

I know, Hazel --- We exerience pain differently - I am a whimp and have low tolerance for pain ...needed a lot of pain meds and strong ones (which they did not give me)

Are you still taking pain medication?
