10weeks ago I had a RTHR all has gone really well my left hip is also bad and I had an injectioninto it last may.
However this left hip has become really painful now and I am having to rely on my new right hip to keep me mobile.
I have been put on the waiting list for my left hip to be replaced but I am getting really down as all the pain is coming back again and am having to go back on the codeine for some pain relief. Has anyone else been in this situation and how did you cope.
Thanks susan
Hi Susan
i had the same thing happen to me. On May 30,2017 I had my left hip replaced and everything was looking good, back walking, driving, etc then right hip started acting up. I met with surgeon had X-ray of right hip and it was bone on bone. This was in August and here in Canada where I live, the waiting time was 8 to 10 months. I was put on a waiting list and also a cancellation list. By September I was in so much pain, back on codeine using a walker and unable to drive. It was so depressing and frustrating. I went back to surgeon practically begged to have surgery ASAP. He managed to book me in for December 11. I had the surgery and was home again December 13. What a difference!
i still have soreness and healing pain, use ice and pain killers if needed.
i have my first outside physio this Friday but have been doing the simple exercises since the operation.
the only thing I can recommend to you is try to keep doing the exercises both legs to build up muscle. Take the pain killers when needed, don’t worry you won’t become addicted. Get your name on a cancellation list. Things might be different if you are in U.K. but keep bugging the surgeon or their secretary. I feel for you as I know the pain you must be experiencing and the frustration too.
it will get better. Good luck and hugs to you.

HI Susan, I had right done Sept. 18, seven weeks later the left started to go. I was told that relying for five months on my left hip plus through recovery probably caused it to deteriorate so quickly. My left is being replaced Jan. 15. Hopefully this is the end of it as I have no more hips to give!
It looks like I am going to be in the same boat as you Susan. However, they have already made the call on my right one which will be replaced sometime after the TLHR to be done next week. It will be a learning curve with the left then on to the right when they deem me ready to go again. Here’s a question for anyone out there who is/has been on painkillers waiting for the operation: Anyone react to Oxycodone quite quickly? I had only started doing them for 3/4 days when I started feeling very buzzed, lethargic, very tired in daytime, body was often ‘restless’ and my stomach would often feel nauseated. I stopped them a few days ago. Feeling better now.
Was I on my way to getting hooked?
