2nd hip

Hi ,I am back and in pain once again, only this time it's my left hip.

My surgery is Oct. 4 and I can't wait .

This pain is relentless.

I try to be active everyday I go to the gym at least 4 days a week . I have two toddlers I attend to a few times a week so I am busy..

I am 4 months post op from my right hip replacement and the movement and strength are returning, however my scar is still sensitive on the bottom. I use oils to massage it but still sore to the touch.

People tell me I know what to expect with the second one ,and I gotta tell ya it wasn't a joy ride for me. I ended up back in the hospital with a spinal headache after suffering for almost 2weeks.. nobody ever said that could happen from a spinal. I ended up having a blood patch done , which was God sent, the headache stopped and I could start to heal.

My question is my upper thigh on my left leg and my knee are more painful then the hip itself? ??, I didn't have that type of pain on my right side is this common with hip pain?

Thanks for the rant.. getting nervous again.

I know exactly what you mean. I had left hip done in March and the recovery was very hard because of the right hip. I had AVN I returned to work May for 3 days then the femoral head collapsed and they waited a month and 3 weeks before doing the replacement so pretty much bed rest. Had surgery July 5th and the recovery is much easier this go around. I started out patient therapy soon as I left hospital and doing pretty good now so hang in there I know it's rough but it does get better in time.

hi terrie,

of course you are getting nervous and excited again now that the surgery date is getting closer -

It is a blessing that you know what it will be like and at the same time a curse for the same reason -

Everything you feel right now and in the coming time, the discomfort, stiffness, stabbing pain in different parts of your body are related to your hips - you are still healing from 1st THR while your other hip is detoriating fast -

In my case it was the other way around -- 1st Right hip I was in pain but could handle it - 2nd Left hip I was in agonizing pain for weeks - could not do anything but weep on the couch ---

Try to slow down, darling --- I know you are like a speedy gonzales and it will be hard for you - in that case, try to accept what your body is telling --- PAIN = STOP

big warm hug

you'll be fine

Hi Terrie we are both in the same boat... I had RTH done same time as you and, like you now suffering pain in my left hip, due to be replaced October. It is hard isn't it to know 100% if it is hip related I kept asking my consultant that as I, like you have knee pain and severe groin pain... he gave me an injection in my hip 3 wks ago to clarify if it was hip related and all pain went - only for 5 days sadly but this told me it was my hip, and I guess will be the same for you. I think we,re going to have to bite the bullet and do it! I feel worse and more nervous about having my 2nd one done, don't know why but hopefully we,ll be up and running afterwards all the very best to you Terrie x x

Hi Terrie can I ask you what area you live in?

Hi terrie 77563:

My RTHR is scheduled for Oct 2 via anterior approach once again with same surgeon. I am hoping it will go as smoothly as the LTRH I had last November. I had knee arthroscopic surgery just before (3 months) each THR on both knees. The miniscus was pretty well torn up on both and was told that having the knee arthroscopic prior to my THR would improve the results. I think it did.

Part of the healing process is one step forward two steps back on some days. If you had the anterior approach procedure, you muscles (upper part of thigh) have been well stretched to access the hip joint for surgery. The pain you feel is the muscle healing from this abnormal stretch. When in doubt, consult your surgeon.

You cannot be assured of nothing going wrong. But the pain I feel in my right hip now will be gone with the surgery. Yes, there will be a recovery pain from healing and perhaps another hematoma, but that is nothing compared to what I feel now. I still have no surface skin feeling in parts of my left thigh from the TLHR. But it is slowly coming back.

Hope my experiences help,
