Had my first knee replacement in January now my other knee is playing up, my doctor told me I have to wait until my first knee is healed before he can do anything but the pain is bad, can anyone recommend what to do. Taking painkillers and rubbing gel in it but nothing works any one else suffer from this

I had my TKR on the 30th December and my other knee has now gone just like yours. i can't ease the pain but the hospital has told me i will have my op in the next 13 weeks so don't understand why you have to wait for your first to heal.
Ask to be referred back to the orthopaedic surgeon who did your first knee. This should be almost healed now anyway. Also ask for an injection into your knee, this might just tide you over for a while. Certain doctors at my gp surgery can do this on site. You don't need to suffer pain in this day and age. They can't do steroid injections within six months of surgery in case of infection, but no I don't see why you should have to wait after five months, not in a lot of pain.
I almost 4 weeks post op on my left knee and found out last Monday that I have to have my right one done as well, they won't put me on the list until 27th August, that will be 3 months since my first one, so I think you should ask to be referred back to your surgeon.
Hi you can get knee splint / supports, have you contacted your physio dept or checked online for this sort of equipment. Anti inflammatories and painkillers which I'm guessing you all ready know about if you already had one knee done. How is your KNR working out? I'd have thought it would be OK by now x
Hi Chris, a lot of us seem to need the other one done, My right knee is going too but not just as bad as yours is, I am taking painkillers and rubbing gel on but it is nowhere near as bad as the other one yet!!!
See if you can go back to consultant, instead of gp, who did no1 knee and get his opinion. My consultant told me to ring his secretary in the hospital instead of going through gp, physio, injections etc when my right knee got any worse otherwise he will check it at 1 year mark of left replacement as he is aware it is playing up. I knew that BOTH knees were bad. Had the one bothering me the most at the time go first. At my two month appointment we scheduled #2 for three weeks from then.
Best thing I did was get both done because #2 was really holding me back prior to surgery!
All good now nearly a year later!
I was glad to be done with that awful achy pain in my joints.
Don't see why they have to wait, I had both of mine done at the wsame time -- no longer allowed, but...
Chris, I was worried about that for myself and had both replaced at the same time. Done. But a friend of mine waited about a year after the first replacement. She was in so much pain and would get cortizone shots every several months to help her get through. It's normal for the extra needs that are required of the "good" knee strain it too much. Sorry to hear you are going through this much pain.
I had my 1st knee done 8th Jan 2016 the other knee was bad as well, went in 8th April 2017, had the other one done, had forgotten all the pain, from the 1st but believe me I remember it now. But I can honestly say, the second one you know what too expect, but I think I am trying too hard. As I am in constant pain 24/7 but results of first keep me going. Good luck
