2nd THR

Hi dear friends,

A little overview of my journey so far -

I had my 1st THR surgery March16, 2015 and my 2nd one September 10, 2015 - that makes me approx 33 days post op - 4 weeks since I was discharged ..

I know that there are quite a few of us who were in the same situation, 2 THR surgeries within a short time -

During the healing process of 1st, right, hip , the other hip was going bad very fast - the constant gnawing pain while the just opeated hip was still in early stages of recovery -

pretty soon this new hip started to compensate for the bad one -

I know and remember how some of us couldn't wait for the 2nd surgery as the pain was getting so bad - well, same here -

fast forward -

I am doing really good - cannot believe the difference having 2 new hips -

however ........ since yesterday the "old" hip started to hurt around the new joint - Sometimes I feel that  right side (old) is behind, weaker, than the new one on the left -

my question is, how is your "older" hip keeping up?

thank you

big warm hug

So far so good. X-ray says very early changes in the other hip, so until I get symptoms I will live normally. Will try and loose a bit of weight and do exercises with both hips to keep both strong. My husband had a hip replacement several years ago and was also told that there were early changes in his other hip, no trouble as yet

Hi renee,

Hugs. It must be rotten having pain in your "old" hip, but it is having to do a lot of work at the moment supporting/helping the new hip. Maybe the pain is just tiredness and strain from all the extra it is doing. Just take it easy for today and it may settle.

By the way, wave to your cat from our two felines.

Not a hip but a knee. I've had 2 knee replacements on the right hand side, the same side as the new hip. The last knee replacement was 2 years ago and I now have more pain in my knee than my hip and it's increasing. It feels like it's out of alignment or something. I'm a bit concerned that it won't go back into alignment.

These replacement seem like children. They don't like it when you go and get a new one and start to act all jealous just so you notice them. No really but that's how it's feeling.

I guess you may have adjusted in some way and now it doesn't like having to readjust.

Hi Renee,

I found I had various pains - including in the first hip - but at 8 weeks has all settled down. X

thank you ...

I know - of course it takes more time - and both hips/legs need to get stronger - LOL on the they behave like children comparison ... Exactly how I think about it ... jealous that right hip was replaced, leftie immediately wanted one too -

time to give them equal attention -

very cold here in Holland - a nip in the air so to speak - around 0 degrees -

big wamr hug

have you overdone the walking, remember they really had to knock you around to dis-locate that hip joint, you may have some muscle strains, and or small tear in ligament's 6 weeks for muscle strain and 12 weeks for Ligaments, cartledge. I have double THR so know exactly how you feel.  Do some non weighbearing exercise swimming, heated pool, but you MUST HAVE a clean and healed wound before you get in the water, otherwise you are going to get a very nasty infection.  I did and still do 1 hour in the water, at 34 weeks after surgery, post hip surgery exercises, and then treading water for most of that hour.
