Hello, Simon here again
Thought seing as I'd posted experience after 1st week, I'd carry on, moving through to the 2nd week now.
I'm a male 24 year old student, suffering from depression taking 20mg of citalopram.
The side effects have subsided now, no dry mouth, sleeping pattern stable no more spaced out feelings.
Also, however, any feeling that the tablets where cheering me up has also diminished, however i do still feel slightly better, and the 2 week period is when the tablets supposedly kick in. During the first 2 weeks I shouldnt have felt any better at all. The fact that i did may have been some sort of side effect or just a placebo effect. So fingers crossed i notice an improvement in my mood.
The doctor has asked i see him once every 2 weeks to see if the tablets are working or not, and agreed that during the next 2-4 weeks i should feel some improvement if citalopram is the right drug for me.
Hope everyones ok.
Simon
Hello Simon,
I am on my second week too now and the side effects and initial cheerfulness has gone. Again, like you, I don't feel as bad as I did before the tablets but the fuzzy, happy detachment from everything has gone.
I have been told the actual effects probably won't be apparent for another 1 to 2 weeks then it will be a subtle change in mood. Here's hoping!
Is it affecting your study at all? I have had to ask for a 2 week extension on my essay because I couldn't think or concentrate but my head feels a lot clearer now.
hope you feel better soon
Marie
Hey Marie
I have managed to scrape through so far on essays etc as i was lucky enough to start citalopram between essay dates, i've managed to make starts on the essays and seem to be concentrating about as much as i do normally (which isnt saying much in my case!).
I didnt try any essays during the first week however, and i do think that the spaced out feeling would have made it difficult to do any work.
The effect of the pill seems to be reducing by the day however i will stick with it for another 2 weeks before i think about suggesting a dose increase to the doctor or any other changes.
What are you studying if you dont mind me asking?
Best wishes
Simon
Hi again Simon
Glad you have been keeping up with your studies. I am studying nutritional medicine at Thames Valley, its a distance learning degree as I have a full time job as well, its hard work, particularly when I am feeling like this. I should be finding natural ways of fighting the anxiety I know but it got too much.
What are you studying?
Marie
