I had a vertical laparotomy to remove a 35cm cyst 3 k1/2 weeks ago. Before surgery I had put my symptoms down to other reasons or not paid that much attention to them. Since surgery I have been so pleased with how well I have been recovering, until now. My stomach has been swollen but these past couple of days it's gotten really big again, almost to pre surgery size. I am overweight though which doesn't help but it's definitely bloated. I feel full and have gone off my food. Also I'm incredibly tired again. I have indigestion which I didn't pre surgery as I am on medication for it for a hiatus hernia.
Anyone know why I am experiencing these things?
also my incision feels rock hard and uncomfortable now.
Hi Carlee
may be worth speaking to your doc if you worried, are you resting properly?
but I'm 7 and half weeks post op with vertical cut, my stomach only just started to go down. I'm still getting pains in ribs and back, in fact pain been worse, think just such a big op and you don't realise how long it takes to heal. I actually put on a 1lb when I was weighed after op, couldn't believe it, all the other woman were saying how much they had lost. I thought I lose some, each ovary must have weighed something lol. Even now weight not coming off. Hoping to start swimming which will help
i have a lump at end of my scar am sure they put something underneath to keep it together
Thank you. I wonder if I'm maybe over doing it slightly. I've been doing more this week which is when I've started to experience these things. I'll have a lazy few days and see if that helps. I'll ring my GP Monday if I'm still concerned.
i never thought about the hard lumps being something like that, that would make sense though.
I have lost 10lbs since surgery and the shape of my belly gas changed but it seems to be growing again. Maybe that will change over the next few weeks. It's strange because it seems to grow throughout the day. Maybe I am over doing it a little
Well rest see how it goes. Should be careful not to stretch to much
Also things move around into the space. I've already had womb out now no ovaries and apparently your colon drops so that must do something,
wow 10lbs that's loads
Hiya Carlee, I'm totally with June 77782 about speaking to your GP. I don't have experience (yet) with surgery and recovery but I would reckon rest as much as possible is key. Have you changed anything in your diet that may cause your tummy to be upset?
Hi Carlee, before my op my consultant said to me if you start to feel worse instead of better I want to know because that could be a sign of infection or a sign of some other problem internally. Ring your consultants sec and tell her your symptoms.
Hi, just to say thanks for your replies and to let you all know I'm fine. I spoke to my specialist and he said everything sounds normal and that I wasn't to over think things. I had a lazy few days and seem back on track. I think it's because I am home alone a lot and over think it all.
Thankfully my belly bruising is nearly gone and although it's swollen the shape is returning to a more normal shape! Still a long way to go mind.
