3 days post-op LTHR

Hi everyone. I have been following this forum for a few months prior to my hip replacement. All your contributions have been extremely helpful and all this knowledge I gained helped me to go in to hospital relaxed and full of confidence. All went well and I was able to go home early thanks to the recommended gym preparation on this forum. It is really paying off in a major way. Did not sleep very well last night but am not too worried about that. I am sure it will all fall back into place again. No major pain, doing my exercises and already managed to walk on one crutch around the house. Thanks once again for sharing all your experiences and giving such useful advice. Kind regards, Ruth

hi ruth,

warm welcome to this wonderful forum of hippies and to this side -

Thank you for sharing and posting - it is a great forum with loving members - unconditional support and understanding - and of course, real life experiences and tips -

wow, already walking with one crutch at 3 days post-op? did you have anterior or posterior approach?

big warm hug

renee

Glad to hear you're doing good Ruth. I'm 9 days post op RTHR. I was real excited to be home on day 3 , might have overdone it a bit according to physical therapist! Walking the dog / cleaning kitchen / laundry / etc / nothing to serious and exercise is important just work into it. Sleep is another thing it's 245 AM here / takes a while for your body to recover from shock of surgery and anesthesia / be consistent with your exercise and physical therapy DAVE 63380

Hi renee

great to get a reply and much appreciated. I had the posterior approach.

THanks Dave!

I am doing nothing like you do just yet but delighted to hear what is possible after 9 days. No physical therapy in the plan for the next two weeks, just my exercises which I have already done twice today and it is 11.30am here. All the best to you. Ruth

Hi Ruth

I'm on day 10 post had thr with removal of hip screw and plate 1st. iv stopped pain relief and walking around a mile and half a day for past 3 days I also feel I can walk with 1 stick or even without but been advised to stay using 2 for couple more weeks to give healing process inside time glad to here your doing well x

Hi jeff

Nice to hear your comments. I have had three screws removed as well during op prior to hip replacement. I am fully aware from this forum of not overdoing it and using both crutches at night, visiting the bathroom and when going out on the patio but all other times I am confident with just the one crutch because I feel pretty stable standing on both feet unaided. Nice to hear you are doing so great! Ruth

Excellent progress Ruth!!  WIshing you a contiuned speedy recovery and if you have any set backs along your journey it is perfectly normal. Sounds like you are doing just fine! Did you do the spinal and sedatio? I go Tuesday, getting pretty excited/nervous!  Hang in there! I bet your glad it's over.

Thanks for your comments,Anette! I had GA and the op took three hours because they had to remove the screws first. No reason to be nervous and relax. Best wishes and keep me in the loop. Ruth

Thanks Ruth!!  wishing you smooths days ahead

Hi Ruth,  Happy to hear your positive report.  God bless.

Hi Ruth! Well done you! But please don't over do things.Help is out there!! You will find that one day you feel as though your getting there, then the next day your not.Remeber that you've had a major op!! Regards Amanda h

These are very wise words. I didn't take a rest on the bed today and lots of visitors. Walking around and doing all the exercises. I have been in bed for last hour because my body was telling me it had enough. No pain just feeling knackered and legs are heavy. I will make sure I have a sleep or failing that a rest on the bed. See, this is why this forum is so helpful and understanding. I am glad I have discovered it. Ruth

Take it easy! Three days?! I'm fifty-three and had both sides done, but at three days it still felt as if I had two wooden pegs attached to my torso. I was praying I wouldn't get fall as I used the walker to go to the bathroom! Anyway--good for you, just be careful!!!
