3 weeks post op advice please

Had a A&p repair 3 weeks and 3 days ago and im feeling really sore and bruised this week - worse than last week - no bleeding or discharge - having usual problems with BM having to resort to suppositories every other day. Feel like there is something in my vagina - is it just swelling? will this get better? So many questions and not enough information!! Thank heavens for this forum x any advice greatly appreciated x

Hi Jamandar yes this is all normal my swelling was still there till abt 4 ur 5 weeks it does get better I promise u , BM will get better too

Yes as Joan already said completely normal. It takes a while for all the swelling to calm down - we take an absolute battering down there during this op. Time and rest are your best friends now and it will get better. I have had issues with BMs too ! Are you on any stool softeners !? X

Thank you so much for your reassurances ladies xx

Bunky, Ive been taking Fibrogel prune juice and eating prunes but the the only reliable thing is the suppositories - BMs have always been an issue since my babies - over 22 years ago - and im not sure if the pressure i can feel is from the swelling or its because I need "to go" - i make sure i have BM at least every other day - but its sometimes quite traumatic and feel worse after "Ive been" !

Hello. The problem with this surgery, and something patients aren't being told these days is that the pain and discomfort often gets worse over the weeks. As the sutures tighten and you get swelling everything feels much more uncomfortable unfortunately. Continue taking painkillers regular.....don't be a martyr

Thank you Matron - thats very reassuring. Im astounded at the lack of advice given on discharge - all i was told was no lifting and no baths for 6 weeks. This forum has been a life saver.

I'm also astounded as well and didn't realise just how little information was given until I retired from nursing and joined this forum. I'm now working along with other nurses and Urogynaecologists on information for all patients following pelvic floor surgery which we hope will be rolled out across England and Wales where hospitals haven't provided their own. I also want it to be available online.

Glad to read that matron, had my surgery for posterior repair last week, had no pain until in my 2nd week and no bleeding, but today have pain and have bleeding thinking it might be my period though.

I know exactly what you mean by the pressure ! I think at the stage you are at its a combination of the two - almost feels like the prolapse is still there !? Be assured it's fine and normal and it does improve but I was a good 6 weeks before it did ! Everyone heals at different speeds and I know I'm a slow healer but gives you an idea xx
