Hi, it was 3 weeks ago yesterday, Friday 2nd that I had a full hip replacement on my right thigh. I was petrified. Got through it, in hospital for 6 days. Low blood pressure. It's easier to list the problems:
tingling, like spiders crawling, on both thighs. (Started in hospital)
burning pain in non operated leg of a night. Started when I came home.
non operated leg, ankle swollen.
second day home, huge boil came up on my vulva! Never had one in my life. District nurse looked at it, cleaned it up. Hurt like hell. Next day 4 more appeared. Help, phone call to DR. Antibiotics given.
told Dr about numbness. He examined me. He thinks all is okay and it should go away.
my skin is dry and peeling, especially on my legs. Nobody warns you about that.
oh,,the scar on my nose will hopefully fade. I fainted in hospital and fell flat on my face. Still have bump under top lip and tender nose.
my hip and scar, so far feel fine. So without all the above I am sure I would be feeling a bit better!
my biggest fear is falling. I went over the park with my friend with our dogs 2 days ago. Ten slow minutes in there I was bushed.
what did make me feel wonderful today was getting the green light off the district nurse to have a shower. It was heaven. Made me feel human again:-)
Isn't that first shower just the best?!?! Best. Shower. Ever!
Hi Dawn,
Nothing like piling up extra things on top of your major surgery! Poor you, I feel for you.
Was the boil staph or some other bug we can pick up while in the hospital?
Yes, the first shower is heavenly! So glad something good came your way.
You mentioned falling and I am wondering if that could have made your other leg sore? Other than that, it is not unusual to have pain in the un-operated leg because it is the one we rely upon heavily after the surgery.
I think all the tingles are your nerves trying to reconnect and heal.
My heart goes out to you and hope for the best outcome!
Dawn
Hi
my goodness me you have had a rough time.....first showers are the best !!
hope things continue to improve for you all the best
Denise 😊
Hopefully all the tingles etc will soon be less frequent, it is most likely the nerves and muscles settling down and sorting themselves out inside, which of course we can't see. Get some baby lotion to put on your legs, its wonderful stuff. The skin on my legs felt tight because of the swelling and then the bruising started to come out, but the baby lotion certainly softens the skin and makes it feel much more comfortable. Hopefully you will soon feel much better. Take short walks at first, I was told two short walks are better than one long one and put your legs up for half to an hour every day to help the swelling in your ankles. Hope all goes well.
Thanks for the replies. It helps. Dawn, the fall was a faint, right on my face. I was lucky not to dislocate my new hip. I was sitting in a chair, so it was more of a crumpled fall, just my nose and lip didn't like the hard floor. I laughed about it later with the women on the ward as I flashed them my bottom!! Lovely hospital gown on. The ladies on the ward were fab, we really supported each other and giggled between the pain.
On the boils, I'm not sure but I did wonder if it was something I had picked up in hospital. Thankfully the antibiotics sorted them.
im seeing my surgeon very soon as I opted to go on the trial. It's ceramic on ceramic by Zimmer. The ball is smaller. They are trialling it for younger more active patients. I was unsure at first, but I thought, what the hell, as the whole thing is uncertain from one individual to another.
So sad you had dip much trouble after surgery.wow there are a few thing makes me wonder what did they to you. That's really scary. Hopefully that is all behind you.
Strength comes gradually. It will take time to be stronger. But you will.
