3 weeks post THR. Pain with the first few steps

Hello, I had a THR 3 weeks and two days ago. Overall I have been amazed with the results to this point. I am able to walk quite normally with a stick and can climb two flights of stairs without any difficulty. The only issue I have is that when I have been sitting for more than 15-20 minutes, or when I wake up in the morning the first few steps that I take are reminiscent of the pre THR days, i.e. they are quite painful. After a couple of minutes I am moving freely. Is this to be expected and I am worrying unnecessarily? Any advice would be most welcome. Thank you.

Yes, I’d say it is normal. I am 5 weeks post…and altho I don’t feel pain when waking or after sitting a long time, I am very stiff for a little while.

the physio put me through my paces and went for my first walk with Zimmer frames and 2 walking stick and now I can’t even move now

I had my hip replacement on Thursday and am in a lot of pain especially when standing up and walking around but take it will ease off and were they cut me open is well swollen up

I had my hip replacement on Thursday and am now home but in serve pain how long will it last and struggling to lift foot and move leg side way end of p6woul be light at the end of the tunnel

Alan sorry you’re in a lot of pain. Are you taking all your prescribed meds?

my hip is not to bad but my leg and knee is very swollen and having a job to bend it only a week after hip replacement

Hi Alan, I had swollen legs for the first couple of weeks. Keep taking your meds and exercising, but also rest and put your legs up with something cold on the swollen parts. Good luck.

thanks very much for that
