hi I am 31 days post op before my op I was a hot blooded person, now I am constantly cold! I am on blood thinning injections and will be for a further2 months is this the reason or has others been feeling cold?
I am however very lucky in the sleep department, I have had a least 5 - 6 hours nearly every night. I planned medication to take the last ones at 11 - 11:30. I also have a nap most afternoons. So all in all very lucky.
I've always heard that blood thins in a hot climate in order for the body to cope with the heat better, so probably yoour feeling cold has something to do with the blood thinning drugs. Because it was unusually cold over here I never connected the two, but looking back I was sitting around with three or four layers of clothes on . and my lovely dressing gown on top . . . .and this is tenerife!!!
Hi.
Have just had TKR number two. First one was in June last year when it was extremely hot and I was cold all the time - needing to wear a cardigan.
This time, I have been fine. The major difference, I think, is that first time round I found the whole procedure extremely traumatic and, hence, feeling cold was shock more than anything else.

Hi
Im not on the drug thinners, just aspirin for that, but Im forever complaining that Im cold! And Im the one who took a cooling spray and fan into hospital!
Whenever I have an odd experience or feeling, I think I must be the only one, but apparantly not!
Glad your sleep is working out for you, I hope your recovery continues to go well xx
I simply couldn't get warm. Extra blankets, extra temp settings on the thermostats. Nearly everyone else that visited almost cooked while I was recouvery get. It did get better after the blood thinners wore off.
You are very brave to go back for a second one. My 'good' knee is twinging, but at the moment I just don't think I could face it all again . . motorised wheelchair for me I think!!!
No choice, I'm afraid.
And why get only 50% of the job done, however difficult?
I'm sure it depends on the level of pain you have before the op. I think I could have continued for several more years with injections and walking with the leg sgtraight, but the specialist said why leave it until you are any older, and less able to cope with it . . .I wasn't in terrible pain like some people are, so the post oeprative pain etc. probably seems worse to me than to someone who has lived with agony for a long time! I'll have to see how I feel if the other knee finally lets me down!
HiLouise
I had blood thinning tablets for 28 days after leaving hospital (same as I did after my first TKR in Dec 2012), but I never noticed that they made me feel especially cold.

2nd TKR Sept 2014
I take 2 tramadol x 3 times a day paracetamol x 3 times a day and at night I take tramadol x 2 with 2 x codeine I also take 2 x amitryptline for pain.
I have taken codeine and paracetomol plus amitryptline for Athritus of spine and various other joints for quite a few years
i did use hot water bottle for pain but due to severe swelling physio told me not to use heat, Just ice.
Would I go for another TKR on other leg ?. Yes I would because the pain I am in now is a lesser pain than pre op. ( I hope I don't need one though) have a good First day of summer to you all xx
Wow, that's a lot of medication! I take x2 paracetamol 4 times daily, plus 2 ibruprofen daily. Have cut down from 3 as they make me nauseous.
Bet you get a good night's sleep though!
Oh yes I get between 6 - 6:1/2 a night I have only had a couple of bad nights. I will no doubt be cutting out tramadol and go back to my codeine and paracetamol and amytripline. I have severe Athritus of spine and other joints so need regular pain meds to control it.
Pleased to read that. Tramadol is addictive.
Hi Lynn, sounds like you're coming along well. I was on stronger painkillers for the first 4 to 6 weeks. Seems like you're taking this second TKR in your stride (pardon the pun 😊). Hope I'm right. Well done!

Evening Jen!
Must admit that, so far, this TKR has been better. Still painful and some miserable nights BUT no meltdowns like last time.
Thought I was going nuts on occasion.
Lovely keeping in touch.
But so is codeine! Tramadol never gave me the 'euphoria' which apparently it does give some people. .(thank heavens) even so, it was very difficult to stop taking it. . . If it had also given me euphoria, I suppose it would have been even MORE difficult to give it up!
